Recently I was blessed to meet a new author & friend and she agreed to answer some questions. Her path into the world of EZines intrigued me, as it is yet another opportunity for authors to reach an audience. She is involved in many other areas, including the American Cancer Society and the Kentucky Humane Society. I know many will benefit from her today as well!
Welcome Lynn Tincher!
From where did the inspiration for Afterthoughts come? How did you come up with the storyline?
The idea for Afterthoughts was something that was swirling around in my head for many years. I don't know that I could pinpoint any one thing that I can attribute to the idea other than I've always been fascinated with the idea of mind reading and whether or not it is real or a psychosis. It has been a life long dream of mine to write a book so I decided to wrap a story around this idea and I'm very proud of what was produced. I was very happy to have written it but to see it in print now is more than I hoped for.
As for the storyline, I love a good mystery. I began with my heroine, Paige, and the main idea that she was going to be caught up in an elaborate mind game. I wasn't sure at first how it was going to end but the story took off as I was writing, helping me to create the roller coaster ride and I am thrilled with the outcome.
Is this your favorite genre? What other areas might you branch out to?
This is one of my favorite genres. I love thrillers of all kinds. I also love Science Fiction and that is an area I'm considering with a couple of new ideas for stories that I have. I would also like to write comedy or something fun like that.
It's refreshing to see an author you wants to help others! How long have you been doing the E-Zine?
Thank you. I started the eZine in April of 2008 as a way of updating my eighty wonderful friends with my news. The eZine then was forwarded on to their friends and I made contact with some very helpful people. This continued to snowball. Within two months, the eZine was being read all over the world by hundreds of people. I was so thankful to my friends that helped pass the information along, I thought I should return the favor. I started advertising that I would offer free publicity for artists of all kinds by adding an article to my eZine. This would not only benefit my readers in that they had something other than me to read about, it would help the artist in getting free exposure. Wow, I didn't expect what happened next. The readership exploded. Thousands of people all over the world are reading it now and I have been so blessed by the artists I've featured. I've met some very inspirational and talented people. If I can help each artist in any way that I can, then I consider my job well done. That's a greater reward than I could even ask for.
Part of the proceeds from this book go to the American Cancer Society – what is your connection with this cause?
Unfortunately, I have had a few friends affected by this disease. I've seen its horrible effects and I have seen, thankfully, several of them pull through and lead a normal life again. I am fortunate enough to have a friend, Vickie Grassman, the Income Development – Special Events Coordinator for the American Cancer Society here in Louisville. It seemed natural to team up with her and do what I can to help. I am also working with their corporate office now to be able to add their logo's to my website and eZine and link to their information so that others can find out more information about the ACS or donate.
How did you get started with the list management service and Constant Contact?
I started publishing my eZine through another company. I had issues with this company as being considered spammers so I switched to Constant Contact. This was about the same time that my eZine really started taking off. I loved how easy it is to publish the eZine through them and I've personally seen the results publishing an eZine can have. I decided to partner with Constant Contact so that I can help others have similar results. I've offered to do this for others at a low price to be able to help those with small budgets achieve their goals. I also have a link on my website so that clients can sign up and manage their email marketing by themselves. I do not have to be involved at all or I can do as little or as much as the client needs.
You do work for the Kentucky Humane Society – you must love animals!!
I really do! My dog, Luke, was abandoned in my boss' yard as an eight week old puppy. He was one of six puppies found. My boss brought them in to work and Luke crawled up in my lap and stayed there for three hours as I worked. I had to bring him home. He is one of the best things that has ever happened to me. I have in the past rescued a couple of loving cats through the Humane Society. I wish I could adopt them all. Since I obviously can not do that without being considered the crazy cat lady, I thought that working with the Kentucky Humane Society would be the best thing I can do to help. I hope that I can help each of them find a home.
People don't realize how much work is involved for an author – can you describe a typical day?
That's an understatement, but I love being busy. A typical day for me starts out by going to work. I do hold down a full time job as well. I keep a notebook handy to write down ideas that I have as they come so that I can develop them when I get home. When I do get home, I spend some time with my husband, kids when they are home, and the dog. Then I sit down at the computer, answer emails, write articles, eZines, and work on any of my personal writing. This sometimes goes late into the evening. I've been known to get up at two in the morning to write or take care of things that are on my mind. I manage to take vacations that are dedicated to writing and sometimes dedicate the weekends to it. I try to keep up with several networking groups and writers groups. I have one of my own that I started. I absolutely love doing all of this so it's easy for me.
Who is your biggest supporter & cheerleader?
That would have to be my husband. He's a writer too as well as holds down a more than full time job. He completely understands what I'm doing and is behind me 100%. He gives me the advice I need, when I need it, and backs me up on the decisions I make, even if he may not agree with them. He's there for me in everything I do. I can't begin to thank him enough.
What is your next big goal? Where is Lynn going next?
Right now, I am working on the sequel to Afterthoughts. I have the outline complete. This is something I did not do the first time around so it will be interesting to see if I stick to the outline or if I end up and going different directions. We will see where it takes me. I am also working on some ideas for a Science Fiction novel. I also just found out that I was one of the authors selected for the Kentucky Book Fair this fall. The book had to go through a selection committee so it's like winning an award. I am very excited about it. This will be at the Kentucky Book Fair in Frankfort Kentucky on November 15th.
