Classes, Conferences, and Festivals

Some outstanding opportunities for writers and authors:

Book Blog Tours is an online class, run by Dani Greer. I took the class 2 and 1/2 years ago, and it really taught me a lot about blogging, Twitter, and preparing for a book tour. If you have a book release coming soon or want to hone your blogging skills, she is hosting a new class next month. Visit Book Blog Tours for details.

The Muse Online Writers Conference is this October 3-9. The largest and longest running online conference of its kind, it features week-long forum discussions, chat room discussions, and pitch sessions with publishers. Run by award-winning author and editor, Lea Schizas, this conference features many authors, editors, and publishers sharing their advice on how to succeed as a writer and author. Sign up today at The Muse Online Writers Conference

Book ‘Em NC is February 25, 2012. The Book ‘Em Foundation’s slogan is “Buy a Book - Stop a Crook” and the proceeds go to fight illiteracy. Of all the book festivals I’ve attended over the years, Book ‘Em is by far my favorite, and I’m thrilled one will finally be held in my home state. Over sixty authors are scheduled to appear so far, including headliners and NY Times bestsellers Carla Neggers and Michael Palmer. Registration is open until October. Visit the Book ‘Em NC website for details. If you’re a reader and live in either NC or SC, put the date on your calendar, because there are talks and panel discussions all day. You can also follow the Book Em NC Blog for more tips on preparing for the conference. Author p.m.terrell has done SO much work to promote this event and it’s gonna be huge!

I agree. Dani's class is the best!

I'm hoping to get to a few local conferences next year if I can rake up enough funds to do so. I like the Buy a Book, Stop a Crook slogan. It's great!

I signed up for Muse Online Conference a couple years ago. I'll have to take it more seriously this time, get out there, meet new people, reacquaint myself with old friends, and do some networking.

Morgan, it's such a great idea!

Stephen, I can recommend a great forum discussion you should join during the Muse Conference.

Helen, apparently she does.

Thanks so much for helping to spread the word about Book 'Em North Carolina, Diane! I've been to a number of conferences, also, and there's just something extra exciting in the air at Book 'Em events. All the authors are so friendly and so willing to share ideas and tips. Our NC event next February will also have 4 publishers who are actively looking for new talent. And with all the book sales benefitting literacy campaigns, it's going to be a great place to be!

And an extra special "THANK YOU" to you, Diane, for heading up the Book 'Em North Carolina campaign in Robeson County schools!

Thanks for the heads up. I want to attend a conference someday. I really do. I'll consider the online one.

Carolyn, I enjoy it every year! Even in the 'classes' I teach, someone teaches me a few things, too.

Liz, it's a great class.

Trish, I'm just getting warmed up! And that is great news about the publishers.

Clarissa, it doesn't get any easier than the Muse Online Writers Conference.

The class sounds great. And I plan to be at the Muse Conference agains this year. It always has so much going on you can't catch up.

I'd love to attend the NC festival too, but it's too far away.

Thanks for the info.
