The Insecure Writer’s Support Group, AI, Comic Con, and Latest Food Board

It’s time for another edition of The Insecure Writer’s Support Group, founded by Ninja Captain, Alex J. Cavanaugh.

This month marks the thirteenth anniversary of the IWSG website and fourteenth anniversary of the beginning of the IWSG with the monthly blog posting. Be sure to visit the IWSG for a list of what we’ve accomplished and built over the years.

The question for today: What are your thoughts on using AI, such as GPChat, Raptor, and others with your writing? Would you use it for research, storybible, or creating outlines\beats?

I’ve never used any of them and at this point, I doubt I ever will except maybe for research. Anything to make that easier!

* * *

We did a con last month. There are so few near us and most that are within driving distance (without an overnight stay) are too expensive. Fortunately, the Greenville Comic Con is close and reasonable!

And of course, one of my latest food boards:

Would you use AI for writing? Do you get out to many events?

The Greenville one looks like fun!

Your boards are always amazing.

I'm glad the con was nearby and went well. Yes, I think it's fine to use Al for research.

Do you combine the two? Great food and great books, sounds perfect!

Wahoo for Comic Con!

So my dad was the first guy on our block to own a computer. All of my brothers are in tech, and my husband. I like to investigate new technologies when they come along -- so I can at least keep up with family discussions. There are always benefits and drawbacks.

A goal of mine is to go to more in-person events. Glad you found one that was close.

I actively avoid using AI even when program try and foist it on me. And yes! I'm doing more and more events these days. Can be so much fun! @samanthabwriter from

Hi, Diane! I would never use AI for my writing, except for when I'm searching for some information. Your con exhibit looks great! I've been working on our conferences, workshops, etc. tab on the IWSG site, and I'm amazed at what the events cost! Nevertheless, I may spring for one next year - maybe in Vegas because we get free hotel rooms and food whenever we travel there. Love your food board; sadly, I'd probably go right for the Snickers bar. 😂. Happy September!

Using AI for research - I think it is a great idea. Saves time, for sure.
The food board looks so-o-o-o yummy.

Tell me the truth....you have a clone, don't you. You have made some specular food boards and they keep getting bigger and better. And love the photo of your display and Comic Con. I don't go to any events like that but sure would love to some day.

Nick, if there was a way to do it, I would.

Crystal, my husband is very tech and computer savvy.

Tara, that would be fun. Be warned - there are SO many vendors at Dragon Con and the booths are SO expensive, it's really hard to make money.

Holly, that was just a little something fun those Snickers.

I appreciate all the comments about the booth and the food board. I really need to start doing some pro photos of them.

I've been pulling back on events a little bit, but kicked it up some this year. Next year I'll probably kick it back up a notch. There are a couple non-book events I want to try out (darker themed, so horror books might sell), so it's a matter of figuring out when they make their tables available.

Drooling. Stargate and Firefly!?!

Love that food board. The snickers are a unique touch!

That food board looks so yummy!

I use AI as a tool, just like I use a calculator.

I've never been to a Comic Con but it looks like about the same as any event I guess, depends on what you interest you.

I wouldn't use AI to write, to research yes but that's about it.

Have a lovely day.

Great you can still find public events to go to best wishes for a smashing success!

L. Diane Wolfe said...

Shannon, you live in a great area for that. I'm just too far out in the boonies!

Liz, they are for sale if you want one.

I've never attended a comic con. But it always looks like a fun time.

Your food board looks so delicious!!! We don't have too many book events here. Nope on the AI for me, I'm too old fashioned, lol

That food board looks diversely delicious!

I dont make it to as many cons as I used to. Ever since the pandemic they've seemed to become less in my area, although we still do have some. I just dont have the time to make it to a lot of them, especially those that are further away from where I live, and I dont drive much further than from my own vicinity, I'll take the public transit and that can take hours to get to the opposite side of town (Sacramento, specifically). I am planning on going to a comic con this month though, in the downtown area of Sacramento.

I'm glad you guys got to do a table at the Greenville con!
