It’s time for another edition of The Insecure Writer’s Support Group, founded by Ninja Captain, Alex J. Cavanaugh.
The question for today: Describe someone you admired when you were a child. Did your opinion of that person change when you grew up?
If we are referring to authors, then there is an author I admired when younger but not so much now. Still a great writer, but as I matured, I realized our values didn’t line up. There were elements in the books that I’d missed when young and naïve that I prefer not to read about now. Sad, but there are other great authors that I can still enjoy.

Hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas. You may have seen this on Facebook, but we were trying to go light with the gifts this year. As you can see from the carnage, we failed. (Several gifts are behind the coffee table, some out in the kitchen, and several big items out of sight, so it’s worse than it looks. And there are only two of us.)
The cats had a great Christmas—that toy in the photo held their interest for hours. Both of them! Needless to say, they slept well that afternoon.
Was there someone you admired? Has your opinion of them changed? How was your Christmas?

Happy New Year. I can relate to your author story. I once devoured all of one particular author's books...but after some years they weren't only creepy ... they got gory. And that's some good looking carnage.
I can relate to your author story. I was talking about mine with my daughter last night when I went over to her house for dinner. I'm glad your cats and you had a good Christmas. Happy New Year!
Sad when we lose faith in an author.
That is a lot of gifts...
As long as the kitties made out on Christmas that's all that matters. 😅
No shame in enjoying Christmas if you aren't going into debt over it, and the items are things people can use and enjoy. You work hard. Have some fun!
We had a lovely Christmas, and since my lot joined my brother and his whole family (bringing numbers to… 12?) you can imagine the carnage! I sympathize with your loss of an author—I have a few that I either loved at a different phase of my life, or whose writing changed to something I don’t like, and it’s a loss.
Your pic reminds me of the old days when all of the kid's four families and my parents took over one house during the holidays. It was fun but exhausting. :-)

Holly, so true!
Hi, Diane! We had carnage too ~ lol. I can't think of any childhood authors I no longer enjoy. I'm pretty wide ranging in what I read, unless it has a lot of horror and gore. If I discover a book I don't like, I just don't buy that author's books again. I'm probably more forgiving than most. Enjoy your start to the new year!
I can relate to your story - it's why I went with a teacher I liked. Too many famous people have flaws that seem to match their accomplishments... which is hard. I'm glad your family including your cats had a great Christmas! :)
Looks like all sorts of fun:)
If you get a chance, please pit stop by the blog tomorrow. There's a picture that made me immediately think of you. You'll know it as soon as you see it:)
Not so much when I was young, but when I first immigrated to Canada I discovered a new genre - fantasy. It didn't exist in Soviet Russia when I grew up. My first fantasy writer was Mercedes Lackey. I fell in love with her books and with the genre in general. It took me a while to fall out of love with Lackey's stories, but I'm still grateful to her: fantasy has became my lifelong favorite genre.
As long as it was a fun Christmas...
Now I'm curious as to the author...
The best laid plans. Glad you enjoyed your Christmas.
Wow! You're a much better gift giver than me. I can never think of what to give people, so I opted for consumables like tea for my husband, coffee for his sister, and gum for the kids. Though we did end up with a haul of 8 different blankets across the family.
Hope your year is going well!
I re-read books a lot. It always makes me sad when I read a book from my youth and realize the writing isn't as good as I thought it was.
Happy New Year and thanks for stopping by my blog. Love the images. He he!
