New Google Algorithms - Social Media is Key

Google is always adjusting their algorithms for their search engines. In addition to key words for SEO and content for CDO, they are also using Online Audience Optimization (OAO.)

While they won’t reveal how their algorithms work, there are ten items that factor into the equation.

According to Publishing Executive:

"Of the top 10 correlating factors, seven are social. These are the seven:
Google Plus Ones
Facebook shares
Facebook page
Facebook comments
Facebook likes
Pinterest
Tweets"

Now we have three areas to consider - key words, valuable content, and social presence.

Are you utilizing all of these?

Two weeks ago I mentioned meeting the delightful Isabel who blogs at Tween 2 Teen Books. She just celebrated her one year blog anniversary and is offering these prizes:
1 copy of Darkness Before Dawn by J.A. London.
1 signed copy of The Circle of Friends Book 1 Lori by L. Diane Wolfe, with swag. And yes, I said signed!
Various swag for The Circle of Friends series.

So for a chance to win Darkness Before Dawn and Book I of my YA/NA series, visit her site!

And your Friday inspirational photo:

"You looking at me?"

*I have a difficult time catching butterflies in photos, so I was really happy with this one.

Eeek...I guess I need to start twittering...I just got the account for the Challenge, but then there it sits...so is it rude to tweet your every post? I know nothing of the etiquette...

I've been aware of these changes for some time, considering I write for various SEO-conscious clients. I can say that Google has done a wonderful job weeding out garbage sites from the top search results, since there were people who were just keyword loading and not providing any value to Internet users. The result is now smart website owners are looking for interesting, well-written, "sticky" content from expert writers! The other part of this change is Google is cracking down on people who engage in various forms of social media spam and such.

I'm screwed - I'm not even on Facebook.

Yay to capturing a butterfly in a photo- I can imagine how hard that is.

I'm on Twitter (though I don't use it much) but I'm not of FB. I've tried twice and both times my computer didn't seem to like it. Couldn't get the program to work.

You took that butterfly photo??? Beautiful! I'm not as active as I could be on social forums, but I'm getting better at Twitter and I consider that a small triumph. Thanks for the giveaway link!

Great giveaway offer, Diane. Thanks. And thanks for the beautiful butterfly moment!

Tina, I hope not, because outside of retweeting other tweets, that's all I do.

Steven, the change was needed. I was pleased when they added CDO, and now OAO will make it even more effective.

Bish, I use both Firefox and IE, and Facebook has been so fussy with IE lately. Think I'll just switch everything to Firefox.

Thank you so much, everyone. I'd almost forgotten that I'd taken this photo.

I have mixed feelings about social media. I recognize that if I go the distance with this novel writing business, I will have to change my feelings about it. As of right now, I have zero desire to be on Twitter. My understanding of Twitter is that it is everyone announcing their every thought to the world at large. For the most part, who cares???

Creating a Facebook Author Page would be easy peasy since I am on there already.

However, I also have no interest in learning how to join Google and the circle business. Bah.

On to a more positive topic, your butterfly pic is lovely. You should be proud; it came out great.

Great capture of the butterfly. The entire search optimization is so important and something I hate thinking about.

I'll be concentrating on quality content and SEO, then. The Google lords would like to 'entangle' us as much as they can.

From what I read recently, pageviews and type of comments count as well toward optimization.

Thanks for the info!

This SEO stuff has always confused me so anything else will melt my brain. Nice that your book is in a giveaway.

Alex you will have to get a couple of clones to run some social media appearances.

I don't really know what the first part means, but as I'm not an author, I guess that doesn't matter.

Love the photo. Don't you have any ostrich pictures???

I love your butterfly photo!

Thanks for the Amazon info. First time I'd heard this, but I'm not surprised.

Happy Weekend :)

Thank you so much for the mention! It means the world to me! The butterfly picture is beautiful. I have sadly proven to myself that photography is not my strong suit.

I am on facebook so I guess I am ok, although I am not really sure what you were talking about. However, I love the photo :)

Thanks for the heads up!

Love the pic. Well done on taking it. :-)

I don't do Facebook, so I guess I'm out of luck there. I wish Tumblr was one of the seven. I like it way more than Pinterest.

Love the photo. So much to learn with SEO stuff. It can feel like chasing your tail sometimes.

Nicely done on the photo! Lovely butterfly. And they are tricky to get, aren't they? Ugh, always more time needed in social media.

I'm so NOT utilizing everything you mentioned as well as I could be. Time to roll up my sleeves and start some social media action!!

Thank you, Robin. If you're on Facebook, then that's good, as it appears to be a good chunk of the equation.

DG, and pageviews are both positive and negative, as the brief ones count against you.

Jo, only of the one that tried to attack me years ago!

Isabel, I hope you have a lot of entries in your giveaway.

JE, I wish Deviant Art was one of them, although it's been a while since I visited my account.

Thank you, Michael. And I do better here, too.

Hi Diane,

Here we go acronym time. SEO, CDO, OCD. Somebody help me!

Yes, those social networking sites, even 'Farcebook', can be well utilised. Of course, I use them to share other's works. I also use them to post up my fascinating, vital to your life, profile updates.

That's very good of Isabel.

Nice composition of the butterfly.

I do hope you realise that not everybody knows what all the acronyms you use mean.

Take care, I'm in search of a clone.

Great info there on the SEOs. Your tips are always insightful. And your butterfly picture is terrific, in all it's wonderful and horrid details. The first time I saw a butterfly up close when I was young, I was truly disturbed by it for quite some time. They stopped being the simple joy they used to be before that. :) Writer’s Mark

I'm good on Google Plus, though I'm distancing myself (a lot) from Facebook.

I could use more Twitter time, though, I guess.

Love that photo, by the way...very vibrant. Well done!

I love the photo.

I don't do much on Google Plus, but I'm active on the other ones.

Great photo! I saw a butterfly just last week while mountain biking. Funny how cool a bug can be when you live in the big city. I'm not sold on G+, but I'm almost everywhere else -- trying not to let social media be a time suck.

What a beautiful butterfly picture! You should frame it.

I'm on all of those social networking sites, so I guess that's a good thing.

That IS a gorgeous picture, Diane.

I refuse to explore Pinterest (don't want another internet addiction) and the Google Plus thing is just weird to me. Oh, well.

Have a great week, Spunk.
