The Insecure Writer's Support Group

It’s time for another edition of The Insecure Writer’s Support Group, hosted by Ninja Captain, Alex J. Cavanaugh.

I decided to offer some encouragement and words of inspiration for you today.

So much of our success is decided by our attitude. As I stated in my book Overcoming Obstacles with SPUNK: “A positive attitude seeks to move forward while a negative attitude refuses to budge…” Our attitude affects everything, from the goals we set to our willingness to risk failure.

No matter what you are facing, you can succeed with the right attitude!

“It is hard to fail, but it is worse never to have tried to succeed.”
- Theodore Roosevelt

“Nothing can stop the man with the right mental attitude from achieving his goal; nothing on earth can help the man with the wrong mental attitude.”
- Thomas Jefferson

“One who fears failure limits his activities. Failure is only the opportunity to more intelligently begin again.”
Henry Ford

“Failures do what is tension relieving, while winners do what is goal achieving.”
- Dennis Waitley

“It is not enough to take steps which may some day lead to a goal; each step must be itself a goal and a step likewise.”
- Johann Wolfgang von Goethe

“In absence of clearly defined goals, we become strangely loyal to performing daily acts of trivia.”
- Author Unknown

“The greatest mistake you can make in life is to continually be afraid you will make one.”
- Elbert Hubbard

LOVE these quotes . I'm all about finding inspirational quotes from around the web. They just make me smile. My FAVE which I think will always be my FAVE is: If I don't write to empty my mind, I go mad." Lord Byron. It just makes me smile because it's sooo accurate. LOL!

I fear the one about clearly defined goals struck too close to home.

I'm afraid I'm the negative type. When it comes to encouraging others, I Queen Positive, but for myself ... well, I'm afraid Elbert Hubbard's quote says it all.

Lynn, I remember that quote from Lord Byron.

Jess, I sometimes have a hard time maintaining the positive, too.

The Teddy Roosevelt quote is one of my all time favorites.

Thanks for posting these gems... I especially like the second last one by Author Unknown.

Oh, good stuff! I think this is key to optimists being more productive. My husband thinks of every single thing that might go wrong and on occasion, it is useful, but mostly it is debilitating.

Great quotes. I need to blow them up, frame them, and hang them all over my house.

Attitude can make or break you. Sometimes we get caught up in the negativity of the moment and forget that we have the power to change things, first starting with our mindset.

I've copied them all and will post them on wall right in front of my PC. Thanks, Diane!

Great quotes! I have to remind myself to keep being positive no matter what happens. But even for an optimist that can be tough at times.

But I refuse to be like my mom. She's make tons of beautiful quilts, but is afraid to show them to anyone in case they spot a tiny mistake. *rolls eyes*

I use a few of those in my classroom - love using quotes. I haven't seen that Hubbard one before - it's a keeper too!

Great stuff. So right about the negative. And yet how many times have I embraced the negative as if it were a friend. It is so far from a friend to anyone. Thanks.
I'm going to have to get more involved with this support group stuff!

I want to have a response, but I can't figure out how I want to do that. I think there are too many difference in what having a "positive attitude" means. I don't necessarily believe that having an "I'm not gonna quit trying" attitude is the same as a "positive" attitude in the general way people use it. Usually, they mean good things will happen if you just believe hard enough that they will, and that kind of attitude doesn't accomplish anything.

I'm a sucker for inspirational quotes, L Diane. I'll add one I read recently by Franklin D Roosevelt too:

It is common sense to take a method and try it. If it fails, admit it, frankly and try another.'

A good writer's quote when grappling with the pantser/plotter conundrum.

Fantabulous quotes!

L. Diane Wolfe said...

Hart, it's a waste of energy to focus on the problems rather than the goal or the solutions.

Isis, you said it so well.

Stina, when only she can see that tiny flaw in the first place.

James, you should.

Andrew, a positive attitude doesn't mean good things will always happen, but it does get you through the bad things better.

Love these quotes. I agree, it is about attitude. Being self employed in any profession requires self discipline and a positive attitude, and writers are no exception. Thank you for the inspiration!

These are all so true, aren't they. It's funny, but I was thinking about aphorisms this morning and the one that I came up with was:

Boredom: the bane of small children but a luxury for adults.

My life has been anything but dull lately.

M Pax said...

I so agree with all of those. I really like the last one.

It's OK to make mistakes.

Diane, I really admire your attitude. I've felt this way for a few years now. The tougher life gets, the more positive one must become. It makes the down times seem irrelevant.

Great post. Happy IWSG.
