Google Searches and Content Discovery Optimization (CDO)

The way Google searches online for content has changed. This means our marketing efforts need to adapt to the changes. According to J. S. McDougall, Content Discovery Optimization (CDO) is replacing Search Engine Optimization (SEO):

“Where SEO focused on the technical aspects of search engine manipulation (keywords, link-building, etc.), CDO emphasizes quality content, sharing and community interaction.”

He compiled a list of five questions to ask yourself before you put anything on the web, including does the content link back to the source and does the content pass the scan test? We often post our book covers and other images, but do they always link back to our site? Do we break up our text with photos, bulleted lists, and section headers?

The value of the content, not keywords, is what’s effective for good CDO.

Did you know about the changes with Google from SEO to CDO? Think you might need to make some changes to your online sites and content?

And because you need an image for today:

Hope CDO doesn't scare you!

LOVE that pic!! :)

I hate to say it, but I don't spend much time thinking about these things. I probably should, but until I have a book out and about, I probably won't. To be honest, I think I've only looked at my stats 2 or maybe 3 times... Lame, I know.

I wonder how a computer algorithm can do all of that - those are some complex calculations!

I'm with Jemi. I don't look at stats or worry too much about Google Search and whether or not it's finding me. Maybe I should. I like to think I post quality content but how does a computer recognize that?

I know one thing: that's one happy, content cat to be reading the funnies.

I'm with Jemi and Yvonne. I don't pay attention to those things. I know I should, but I don't. As it is, I hate that I can now see my page views every time I check out my post listings. I don't need to see them. I don't want to see them. Then I just get to competitive with myself and it sucks the joy out of blogging.

Jemi, I rarely look at stats although I keep SEO in mind when tagging. Now I know it needs to be a little different.

Yvonne, one happy psychotic cat!

Stina, as far as page views, I don't think I've ever looked.

Community interaction? I can do that!

Like the others, I would need someone to hold my hand and show me what I need to do to be most effective. I don't even tag my blog posts! :)

Interesting! I'm tucking this away for future reference.

Heehee, funny kitty!

I actually like this change and think it allows for better search results.

I didn't know about the change and a lot of what you said went over my head but I'm going to have to consider what's going on my blog from now on.

Oh, heck. I was just beginning to understand SEO. Sort of. Back to square one.

Cute picture. : )

Didn't know about this. I do look at blog stats once in awhile, but have no idea what they all mean.

I shared the link to your post on Twitter and Facebook.

I had no idea about any of this. Thanks for the link to the article. Definitely worth a read as I am planning changes to my site.
Thanks again!

Hi! So all the books on SEO books are now redundant. I'm not sure I got it even after reading the link you posted. Are you saying not to break up your post with images? They come at the end like you've done with cute kitty? Ah, google is making so many changes how can we keep abreast of them without going crazy?

This is news to me. Sounds like a positive step for those of us who aren't just trying to game the system. This creates a new twist for all those folks who were relying on SEO. I'll have to study this a bit more.

Love that photo, hehehe! I probably don't spend as much time understanding it as I should. There's only so much my brain can deal with! :)

Thanks, Stephen.

DL, sounds like tagging is not as important now anyway.

Johanna, I do too.

Thank you, Susanne.

Denise, I think it mean TO break up posts with images, bold, highlights, bullets, etc.

Lee, I think it's a good move.

Just when I think I have a handle on things, everything changes. Sigh.... I asked my son who is a computer scientist why the geeks can't just leave things alone and he said, "Because we're geeks." LOL

Thanks for this informative article. I think you have good CDO going here. (smile)
