The Insecure Writer's Support Group - Double Release Day

One day early, but it’s time for another edition of The Insecure Writer’s Support Group, founded by Ninja Captain, Alex J. Cavanaugh.

In terms of your writing career, where do you see yourself five years from now, and what’s your plan to get there?

Five years from now, I intend to be 100% free from my other commitments so I can focus again on my own writing. I have a lot more I juggle outside of Dancing Lemur Press and I intend to eliminate all of it so I can just publish and write. Speaking, formatting, etc., it’s all fun, but I’m aiming for a time when I can focus on my two greatest passions - writing and publishing.

Because, I want more days like today - double release day!

Hi Diane ... sounds a great goal and I'm sure you'll accomplish it ... and we'll get some more books of advice from you, as well as story telling. Congratulations to Jen and Alex on their new releases ... and to all your budding authors ... cheers Hilary

Congrats to Jen and Alex on their release day. I have a feeling you'll reach your goal if not before the five-year mark. You're great at what you do Diane, keep it up!

You'll get to that place, Diane. I know it. You can start by eliminating one thing right now.

Congrats to Jen, Alex, and you. A double release day is awesome!

That sounds like a great place to be in five years. It would be my ideal, too :). I hope you get there!

The same as you! I've already taken the leap--now I just need to make sure it's successful.

A partnership with Alex is always a very good thing.

George Washington Chronicles looks fun and timely.

I don't want to make plans for five years from now. Maybe five days from now, though I'd need to leave room for flexibility. I'm too hyper-distracted by where-ever my brain cells lead me.

Thanks, Diane. Stay well and warm.

Misha Gerrick said...

Your and my goals are pretty much in line except I don't have a publishing house. ;-)

Best of luck with your goals!

I am in awe of your accomplishments and success so far this year, Diane. Have a lovely December and thanks for being an inspiration.

L. Diane Wolfe said...

Alex, you're welcome.

Nick, not sure I could handle 3 in one day.

Chrys, I already know what I want that one thing to be.

JH, I am. We now have about 30 titles.

Robyn, I'm hyper too, which makes it hard to focus some days.

Dean K Miller said...

I have no doubt you'll make it five years (or less!) Congrats on the new releases. It's exciting and inspiring to watch you move forward with success.

Tamara Narayan said...

Yay for double release day! My goal is to write on a strict schedule and find more readers.

Focusing on publishing and writing sounds like a busy-enough life without the other stuff. Public speaking and appearances just don't seem as important as they used to be before social media, podcasts, videos, etc. You can do so much more from your home office now.

Sounds like two fantastic books! Congrats to you and Alex!

Good answer. I didn't put it in my answer but I also plan to cut myself loose from some of the officer positions I hold in writing groups. They don't take a lot of time, but they take up enough that I'll be better off for getting free of it.

I hope you get your dream for focus and your awesome goals!
Congrats to Alex and to Jen!

Congrats to Jen and Alex! Both books sound great. Thanks for sharing the info, Diane.

Yay for double release day!

And I wish you the best on your five-year plan! That's why I eventually gave up being a freelance editor and formatter. It took up so much time I wanted to devote to writing.

You can do it Diane! Keep your eye on the prize.

Here's to getting back to what you love most. Good luck with that goal.

Can we just somehow make more Time so we can do all the things that are fun!!! I hate dropping things but there just isn't time for everything.
I've got my CassaDawn copy and the other book looks great too!

Great goal, Diane. Go for it!

In 5 years I see myself dating Cate Blanchett -- but her attorneys keep sending me Cease and Desist letters. I do not do goals. I focus on the next book only which will come when it will come. :-)

Love your goal, Diane. I hope you can make it. I'm trying to achieve something similar, by focussing only on my writing, at some point in the future.

Yolanda Renée said...

You do it all so well too! But writing does require time, a precious commodity, and the key is to know what you want and how you plan to get there and you do!

In fact, I'll say it now. 'Hey, I know her. She's a friend of mine.' :)

Wow. Sounds like a great plan!

For me? Gosh, my 5 year plan is to have more than 5 more books published. Trying to be more prolific. :-)

Hi, L.Diane,

You certainly have a full, full schedule. It would be great to concentrate on the two things that you love doing the most. Where you find the time to do it all amazes me....

You are incredible. But do take time for you and go RIDE A ROLLERCOASTER!!!!

Happy holidays and all the best in the new year!

I've displayed "CassaFire" on my blog for years now - typical of bloggers to celebrate like this really. I'm always writing about movies and Star Trek but I wonder how well a bookfest would go down? Merry Christmas and the Happy New Years will bring in lots of fresh new ideas.
