The Insecure Writer's Support Group - Double Release Day

One day early, but it’s time for another edition of The Insecure Writer’s Support Group, founded by Ninja Captain, Alex J. Cavanaugh.

In terms of your writing career, where do you see yourself five years from now, and what’s your plan to get there?

Five years from now, I intend to be 100% free from my other commitments so I can focus again on my own writing. I have a lot more I juggle outside of Dancing Lemur Press and I intend to eliminate all of it so I can just publish and write. Speaking, formatting, etc., it’s all fun, but I’m aiming for a time when I can focus on my two greatest passions - writing and publishing.

Because, I want more days like today - double release day!

  6. Congrats to Jen and Alex on their release day. I have a feeling you'll reach your goal if not before the five-year mark. You're great at what you do Diane, keep it up!

  7. You'll get to that place, Diane. I know it. You can start by eliminating one thing right now.

Congrats to Jen, Alex, and you. A double release day is awesome!

  8. Life is so crazy for me that I'm just going to go with the flow.

  9. That sounds like a great place to be in five years. It would be my ideal, too :). I hope you get there!

  12. The same as you! I've already taken the leap--now I just need to make sure it's successful.

I didn't realize you were Alex's publisher as well! Congratulations on your double-launch day! :)

  15. A partnership with Alex is always a very good thing.

George Washington Chronicles looks fun and timely.

I don't want to make plans for five years from now. Maybe five days from now, though I'd need to leave room for flexibility. I'm too hyper-distracted by where-ever my brain cells lead me.

Thanks, Diane. Stay well and warm.

  16. Your and my goals are pretty much in line except I don't have a publishing house. ;-)

Best of luck with your goals!

  17. I am in awe of your accomplishments and success so far this year, Diane. Have a lovely December and thanks for being an inspiration.

  18. Alex, you're welcome.

Nick, not sure I could handle 3 in one day.

Chrys, I already know what I want that one thing to be.

JH, I am. We now have about 30 titles.

Robyn, I'm hyper too, which makes it hard to focus some days.

  19. I have no doubt you'll make it five years (or less!) Congrats on the new releases. It's exciting and inspiring to watch you move forward with success.

  24. Awesome goal! :) And congratulations on the double release day!

  25. Yay for double release day! My goal is to write on a strict schedule and find more readers.

  26. Focusing on publishing and writing sounds like a busy-enough life without the other stuff. Public speaking and appearances just don't seem as important as they used to be before social media, podcasts, videos, etc. You can do so much more from your home office now.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Sounds like two fantastic books! Congrats to you and Alex!

    ReplyDelete
  28. Good answer. I didn't put it in my answer but I also plan to cut myself loose from some of the officer positions I hold in writing groups. They don't take a lot of time, but they take up enough that I'll be better off for getting free of it.

  29. I hope you get your dream for focus and your awesome goals!
Congrats to Alex and to Jen!

  30. Congrats to Jen and Alex! Both books sound great. Thanks for sharing the info, Diane.

  31. Yay for double release day!

And I wish you the best on your five-year plan! That's why I eventually gave up being a freelance editor and formatter. It took up so much time I wanted to devote to writing.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Woohoo!!! Congratulations, writers and publisher!

    ReplyDelete
  33. I am so impressed with everyone's publishing history and goals. All the power to IWSG writers. Happy holidays to you all.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Being able to focus on the things you love the most without the distraction of other commitments is a great goal. Yay for Jen and Alex and their releases :-)

    ReplyDelete
  35. You can do it Diane! Keep your eye on the prize.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Here's to getting back to what you love most. Good luck with that goal.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Can we just somehow make more Time so we can do all the things that are fun!!! I hate dropping things but there just isn't time for everything.
I've got my CassaDawn copy and the other book looks great too!

  38. Great goal, Diane. Go for it!

  39. In 5 years I see myself dating Cate Blanchett -- but her attorneys keep sending me Cease and Desist letters. I do not do goals. I focus on the next book only which will come when it will come. :-)

    ReplyDelete
  40. Congratulations to Jen and Alex on the new books.
Wishing you success with your goals, Diane.

    ReplyDelete
  41. I hope you succeed in five years and get that total uninterrupted time you want to write.

    ReplyDelete
  42. I'm sure you can get there in the next five years. I imagine it helps to reduce everything else one at a time. Good luck!

    ReplyDelete
  43. Fantastic! I love the fact that you know what you want to do and you have a plan on how to get there.
I just purchased Alex's book yesterday.
    All the best.

  44. Love your goal, Diane. I hope you can make it. I'm trying to achieve something similar, by focussing only on my writing, at some point in the future.

    ReplyDelete
  45. You do it all so well too! But writing does require time, a precious commodity, and the key is to know what you want and how you plan to get there and you do!

    ReplyDelete
  46. Nothing but writing and publishing. Sounds like a dream job. Good luck with your goals.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Congratulations to Alex and Jen on their books and to you, the publisher! What an incredible achievement! I hope you reach your goal of writing and publishing only sooner than later. Keep up the good work!

    ReplyDelete
  48. Sounds like a great goal--doing what you love. Good luck to you.

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to you and your family.

  49. In five years, I will be saying, 'Hey, I know her. She's a friend of mine.'
In fact, I'll say it now. 'Hey, I know her. She's a friend of mine.' :)

  50. Wow. Sounds like a great plan!

For me? Gosh, my 5 year plan is to have more than 5 more books published. Trying to be more prolific. :-)

    ReplyDelete
  51. Congratulations to Jen and Alex. And thank you for all you do and will do, Diane. Happy Days.

PS. I think Sheena is deleting my comments. I left a new one on her rant post this morning and it's gone too. I will now ignore her.

  54. Hi, L.Diane,

You certainly have a full, full schedule. It would be great to concentrate on the two things that you love doing the most. Where you find the time to do it all amazes me....

You are incredible. But do take time for you and go RIDE A ROLLERCOASTER!!!!

Happy holidays and all the best in the new year!

    ReplyDelete
  55. Hi L Diane. I wish you well finding yourself concentrating on your loves...writing and publishing. Wouldn't that be nice?

    ReplyDelete
  56. Woohoo! Huge congrats to the authors of the anthology and Alex for the new releases! And to you too! You should be very proud of yourself for getting out so many new books this year. You're awesome! :)

    ReplyDelete
  57. Hope the releases are smokin'.
    Have a good one.

    ReplyDelete
  58. You are a busy lady! I hope you do get more time to write your own books. Congratulations on the new releases! I didn't know Dancing Lemur Press also publishes Middle Grade books. That's good to know.

    ReplyDelete
  59. Great post! I'd have to really think about where I'll be in 5 years. Two new books in the world-- awesome!

  61. I've displayed "CassaFire" on my blog for years now - typical of bloggers to celebrate like this really. I'm always writing about movies and Star Trek but I wonder how well a bookfest would go down? Merry Christmas and the Happy New Years will bring in lots of fresh new ideas.
