The ABC's of Beverages

I had the privilege of trying out some of the recipes in Holly’s cookbook, The ABC’s of Beverages. We had a fun time trying to decide which book I would feature since I’m both a vegan and I don’t eat chocolate. But this book had many drinks I could try and I have two to share today.

I love apple cider and including caramel complimented the flavor. What really made it was the vanilla - yum! And I really wanted the picture to capture the delicious curls of steam.

Hot Caramel Apple Cider

1 7 1/2 cups apple cider
1 & 1/2 TBS caramel syrup
1/2 tsp vanilla

Heat all the ingredients in a saucepan over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until apple cider is hot. Serves 1.

We are always making smoothies in the blender. This one was a perfect fit and delicious.

I also picked this based on the name. When I was a teen, I was a bit of a wild child. To my credit, I got great grades and never got into trouble. However, the words “Jungle Juice” brings back memories of some of the parties we used to throw. Our Jungle Juice was a bottle of 7UP, orange juice (or whatever fruit juice we could find,) and a bottle of Seagram’s 7. (For the first batch. Subsequent batches could contain just about anything.)

I promise, this Jungle Juice will not give you a hangover!

Jungle Juice

1 banana, cut into chunks
2 cups orange juice
dash of ginger

Blend all the ingredients in a blender until smooth. Serves 1.

Both of these beverages look really good, and the addition of caramel to hot apple cider and ginger to the fruit smoothie are very innovative! Good luck on your book, Holly!

My crowd had jungle juice, too - more like yours than Holly's :)

Hi Diane .. great thoughts here and I could try those .. but I'd rather have another mug if possible! Not too sure about the cider caramel .. but I'm sure it'd do me good if I was feeling coldie and 'down' ...

Cheers Hilary

The days are getting chillier, so hot apple cider would be good.

I love the drinks you selected~ What a great idea Holly! Wild child and Jungle Juice can you do the Tarzan yell?

Oh, caramel and apples-yes, please!

You are fun, Diane-I have missed you!
Holly I love this concept, but Z scares me a bit~

Hilary, around here all the mugs come with cat hair.

JE, I gave up chocolate years ago.

Ella, I can't do a Tarzan call. I can promise that Z is not Zebra Juice though.

Thanks for introducing this book. Apple and caramel and vanilla in a hot drink now that sounds great. A bit like eating a caramel apple or drinking one.

We are in DC this weekend for the Marine Corps Marathon and I had an Acai Berry Boost from Tropical Smoothy. I'm not one for fruity drinks, but DANG that was good.

I'll try more fruit concoctions now, so thanks for sharing your recipes. :D

Hey Diane,

Yes, blink and realise that it's actually shy and humble me finally visiting again.

One smoothie of a posting and thanks. Of course, getting back to my snarky self, I shall do my utmost to ignore yet another mention of a Blog Hop! :)

Nice to see you, my friend.

These sound delicious -- I do like me some cider.

Very cool. Thanks for sharing! Apple cider is great. And yeah, jungle juice when I was younger also had... well, whatever liquor was left and whatever juice (or "it says 2% juice" so that's close enough) was around. LOL

Ella "but Z scares me a bit" teehee - drinks are easy for Z's.

The drinks are Zombie Light (a virgin Zombie), a Zulu Warrior, and a Zebra. X is the hard one (for all the books.) I took some creative license there.;)
