Steelers Going to the Super Bowl!

Our household consists only of Pittsburgh fans, so there is much excitement right now! The Steelers went three years ago and won their fifth Super Bowl, which ties with the 49ers for the most - they win this year, they will hold the record! Arizona is really hot right now, though, so anything could happen. The Cardinals in the Super Bowl! Maybe it's a sign of the apocalypse!

Yes, I do enjoy football and sports in general. All five of my YA novels will revolve around one sport or another. It provided me with a familiar topic on which to build each story, although there were still a lot of new ground to cover. I think it helps when we write to have a foundation on which to build. Beginning 100% from scratch is a challenge! I knew nothing about Olympic swimming when I began writing that first book, so for balance, I connected the other main character to college football and selected locations with which I was familiar. For me, it really helped. And I learned so much from the research required, too! A little stretching is good for everybody...

And in two weeks, I'll have my Terrible Towel ready!

I'm not much of a sports fan but one of my clients has written a book called Letters to Brett Favre (Author Tomas Hapka). Maybe you or your blog visitors would like to partake of the most avid fandom ever! (-P

Glad you received the book, Brooke!

Philly was probably a little bummed the Eagles did not make it, too...

My favorites are the teams with Mississippi connected quarterbacks and right now there are three!

Eli and Peyton Manning (Archie's sons) and

Brett Favre

So...I guess you figured out none of my teams made it this year. :)

But I will still enjoy the game (probably will enjoy the commercials they put some much money and energy into more).

We lived in the Tampa area when the Bucs went to the Superbowl and won. Talk about a rush. Good luck, it should be an interesting game.

I'm a fair weather fan. I only like sports when they mean something, like the World Series or Super Bowl.

Good post. Stephen King says, "Write what you know." Good advice. We all have personal experiences to draw on and use in our stories. If you go outside of what you know, you'd better be doing some extensive research.

The Super Bowl is upon us once again, and I'm very much looking forward to it. As usual, I'm pretty much non-partisan – just hoping for a good football game. Although I still think it's a great sport, I don't watch much football during the season, but I never miss the big one. I hope for the sake of you and your household that the Steelers do well, but .. the Cardinals!? Are you kidding me!? Where am I, the Twilight Zone? That team has been a doormat for as long as I can remember, and it seems surreal that they even made the playoffs, let alone going all the way to the Super Bowl. That's what I love about sports: you can predict probability all you want to, but in the end anything can happen.
