The Insecure Writer’s Support Group, Minions, and Writing Again

It’s time for another edition of The Insecure Writer’s Support Group, founded by Ninja Captain, Alex J. Cavanaugh.

Today’s question -
If you could live in any book world, which one would you choose?

I would LOVE to live in Narnia. (I’m sure that’s a popular answer among Christians.) Surrounded by talking animals & magical creatures and in the loving presence of Aslan, God himself. That would be Heaven indeed.

Here are the IWSG Goodreads Book Club books for July:

* * *

The first story in my In Darkness series is with DLP’s editor. The second one is polished and waiting its turn. The third is on it’s first edit and the fourth is ¼ way done. I’m excited as this is the first time I’ve worked on my own stuff for more than one hour a month in YEARS.

* * *

And yes, I was at the very first showing of Minions: The Rise of Gru last Friday. Delayed two years, I was so excited to finally see it. And it blew Lightyear out of the water at the box office – $108 million in 3 days while Lightyear still hasn’t made that much in over 3 weeks. (That’s right Disney – keep denying the real reasons your film tanked, but it certainly had nothing to do with families not taking kids to the theater post-pandemic.)

And in case you didn’t know, I’m a bit of a Minions fan:

What book world would you live in?
Are you a Minions fan?

I'm not surprised you were at the Minion's first showing. Hope you had a blast!
Good luck with your new series!

And here's me with no clue there's a new Minions movie. I really should come out of my cave more often :-)

Narnia is a great pic. I'd live there too! Congrats on the working on your own stuff! Woot.

Ooo. I didn't think about Narnia. I must confess I never made it past the first book. I need to finish the series.

I loved Narnia and did think of it along with so many others, but there were too many other books that came to mind. Best to you Diane and best of luck with your new series. We've moved into a tiny home so I promised I wouldn't collect anything. I'm looking for new homes for my stuffies and clowns. Sad to see them go. Love your collection. The Vancouver airport has one of the largest collections of Mickey Mouse paraphernalia that I've ever seen. I should have taken a picture the last time I was there. Your Minion collection made me think of it.

Can you believe it I completely forgot about Narnia.

Narnia is an awesome world! I still have my box set of those books.

LOL! I had no idea that you were a Minions fan, Diane! I've never seen a Minions movie, but I know many, many people are fans. I loved the Narnia books. Well done with your writing! I can't wait to read your stories.

I'd love to see it.

Congratulations on your new series. I get cranky when I don't write for a few days. I can't imagine only an hour or so a month. That said, I totally understand having to do "things that must be done" no matter what.

I thought of you when the new Minions came out. Congrats on your own writing. I didn't think of Narnia, but I agree. It would be awesome without the battles.

Love all your Minions! Narnia would be so cool. When I was a kid, I used to go in my closet and pretend I could get there.

I've only caught the Minions here and there. I'll have to think about going to see this one.

I've never read Narnia - to my shame. I need to close this gap in my reading. But I have an excuse: I grew up in Soviet Russia. I never even heard of Narnia and its author until I emigrated to Canada as an adult. It took me a few years after that to learn English well enough to start reading in it. After that, I discovered a glut of books I wanted to read, none of which was available in Russian translation. So Narnia fell by the wayside as something for children. :(

Woo Hoo, Glad you have found some writing time and got a chance to see your favorite Minions:)

If Disney ever gets a clue, they won't announce it. I'm glad you were at the Minions showing, where you needed to be.
I'd be in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, likely floating down the river, bloated as can be.

It's great that you're taking some time to write for yourself, Diane. Who wouldn't want to live in Narnia?

Minions are cool. 🍎🍏🍌 (End credit scene humor from the second[?] movie.)

Post-pandemic?? Where's that happening?
Sorry, I'm in America where we're at 70% currently infected.

Kinda makes me want open a wardrobe and get to Narnia too!

For the IWSG July prompt asking which book world I would live in, I narrowed it down to three choices.
One is a short-story I published. One is from a popular series. And one is better known from television, but there are books. It's all on my blog.

Over at Operation Awesome, our Pass or Pages query contest is open this week with July's family saga genre. Know any writers who might want to enter?

Hahaha, love the whole Minion universe. It would definitely be a lot of fun! An entire army of cuddly "villians".

Thanks for stopping by my blog.
Post-war Narnia does sound like a cool place to live.
I had no idea you were such a Minion fan. They are really cute.
Congratulations on the progress with your series.

Woot! That's awesome you're working on your own writing! That must be fun to dive into your own world after spending so much time in other's.

Ah, Narnia. It truly is a good book. My kids liked it too. The Minions! They crack me up! But I can't show my one daughter your photo of your Minionmania. She'll want to redo her stuffed animal room in Minions. Yikes!

Narnia is a great choice. My 4-yr-old grandsons are so excited about the new minions movie. They'll make sure I watch it when it comes to TV. I love all the actors who are voicing the characters. Julie Andrews? Holy cow!

When you changed to pop-up comments, I can now get in to say hi! Yay! And I like your book choice. Narnia is a fabulous place to reside.

Tyrean Martinson said...

Hope you had fun at the movies! I saw a bunch of people dressed up as minions going to the theater the other day (I was at a local shop nearby), and it made me smile.
I love Narnia, but there are so many good book worlds to choose from that it's hard to pick just one.

Hi Diane - bet you enjoyed the new Minions movie ... and I love your wall and niche at home ... no doubt with a few new additions recently. I must read Narnia again ... as I see so many of the IWSG supporters have selected the stories - cheers Hilary

What a happy, bright, Minions room! And yay to getting so far on your own writing again. I can't wait to see the world you've created.

H.R. Bennett said...

Personally, not a fan of Minions. They were kind of a cute aside in the first movie, but never cared about them past that. I get their appeal though.

Mel Chesley said...

Wow! You ARE a Minions fan! One of my best friends is as well and she's got a lot of cute, quirky Minion stuff.
Congratulations on getting to work on your own stuff for more than an hour! And don't get me started about Disney, lol!
I love that you chose Narnia. That is in my top 15 book worlds to live in. Have a great day!

Gwen Gardner said...

This makes me want to go read Narnia! Thanks for the tip.

Congratulations on finally working on some of your own writings!

I thought about Narnia-- post witch Narnia, that is. Since Tolkien and Lewis were friends, I'll assume their universes connect and we can visit each other.

I can just picture you at the front of that Minions queue. Did you dress up for it like my daughter did? Narnia is a good choice. Also, if you have to come back, then you'd hardly have aged a bit.

L. Diane Wolfe said...

Olga, they are aimed a children, but a must read for any fantasy writer.

Victoria, it is years of collecting, so it would take her awhile.

Diane, there were so many stars voicing the movie.

Nick, my husband would not be seen in public with me if I did. But I did wear a Minions t-shirt.

Juneta key said...

Congratulations on your novel, yeah. I love the minions too. I also love Narina, but my heart belongs to Star Wars.

I love the Goodreads meme. It's very eye catching, isn't it?
Hope the writing/publishing is going well and that there's enough hours in the day to get both done;)

Hi Diane... I finally figured out a way to leave a comment...so frustrating having problems leaving them since last week. UGH.

Anyway, your choice of "worlds" to live in is a great one. The Narnia books are so enchanting and beautiful. I can certainly visualize myself living there, too. But, it would be a tough call with the HP world. You know how much I love HP!

I am so HAPPY you got to see your Minions! I know how much you adore them!
