It’s time for another edition of The Insecure Writer’s Support Group, hosted by Ninja Captain, Alex J. Cavanaugh.
Today I have several insecurities in regards to writing, promotions, and upcoming events. I have a lot to get done and time is slipping away.
But sometimes it all takes a back seat to real life.
Today, this is my insecurity.
That’s our Big Boy, Spunky. Today he is at the vet because he has a lump on his side that is cancer. The specialist will decide whether to remove it or do radiation treatments.
I posted about it on Facebook and was overwhelmed by the prayers and thoughtful comments. We are praying that Spunky makes a full recovery. He’s our “Lovebug” and my husband’s “Buddy.” He’s only eight, so we hope he’ll be around many more years.
So at the moment, my mind isn’t on writing. Spunky is more important. Sometimes when we get caught up in this writing gig, we need to remember that real life matters more.
One thing I can do today is help a friend promote a special sale on his book:
“…delivers on the promise of its predecessor, combining military action sequences and political intrigue with strong, memorable characters. Reminiscent of the action-driven stories of Robert A. Heinlein's early fiction…” - Library Journal

That doesn't sound good, it's definitely hard to keep your mind on writing with something so big happening in real life. I hope he's going to be okay.
Sending well wishes to you and your furbaby today. You are right, taking care of those that matter comes first. I tend to forget that myself.
Sending lots of positive thoughts to you and Spunky.
So sorry about Spunky. I hope the treatment goes well and Spunky feels better soon. You're definitely in my thoughts.
Thank you. Dropped him off this morning and now we just wait.
I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you, and for Spunky. Hope you get good news soon.
Aw, Diane, my heart goes out to you and Spunky. What a cutie she is. My kitty is my best little bud and companion. I love her to pieces, when she is hurt or sick my mind can't focus on writing or anything else, either. Fingers crossed everything will be alright and treatment will go well.
Aww no. :( Fingers crossed everything goes well for you and Spunky.
Hope everything works out for Spunky.
Thanks for mentioning CassaFire's sale.
Just snuggle.
It's okay. There will be time for other things at other times.
Kiss that cat for me please!
I love the super kitty position!
Thinking of you!

Prayers for Spunky! <3 My cat, Rosie, who I've had for about seventeen years is blind and I fear she won't be with me much longer. I can't imagine my life without her. And you're right . . . sometimes life takes a back seat but certain things, like our family and pets, are more important.
The vet just called - they removed all of the tumor and outside of a reaction to one of the drugs (poor baby's face swelled up, but he's better now) Spunky came through great! He'll spend the night at the vet and come hope tomorrow.
I'm definitely praying for him.
You're right, some things in life are more important than writing.
Good luck with everything for special Spunky. With so much love around him, he must do well with the treatment.

Hi Diane .. beautiful photos - and I know what you mean about real life .. and animals always bring us home don't they.
I certainly hope that Spunky will be with you for many a year to come .. with many thoughts Hilary
Praying that Spunky makes a full recovery.
Having a seriously ill kitty takes its toll. So sorry, Diane. Hope they can do the surgery and make him well. They do some amazing things for our animals these days.
Hooray! Good news they got the tumor. Spunky will soon return to his "spunky" ways. I completely understand how you feel today. Been there with our pets too. Give him a hug from all of us!
Spunky is officially on my prayer list.
And I'm having trouble sending emails, so to confirm yes on Monday March 17th. Thanks!
It is so hard to lose a pet. Cancer just sucks. My dog, Shelby, was put to sleep last year in May because her cancer came back. I hope that your Spunky beats it good. Our pet friends bring such joy to our lives!
Hope things go well with Spunky. You're right, there are things that are just more important.
Praying for Spunky. Go take care of what's important, hugs!
Thoughts and prayers are with Spunky and you. I had a diabetic cat that need 2 shots a day, did that for four years before I had to part with her.
They can do wonderful things these days so hope all goes well for you all.
Yvonne.
Hugs to you and Spunky, Diane. I know how that feels. It's so hard.
My childhood cat was a diabetic too. One of my girls had a tumor removed from her leg a few years ago and is all fine.
Aw, poor kitty. I hope he gets better.
Diane, great to hear that Spunky came the operation and that they removed all the tumor. Sending prayers and positive thoughts for a speedy recovery. I know you'll be happier when he gets home.
Having lost our eighteen year old cat a few months ago, I understand the place they have in a family. Hoping for the best for you all.
I hope whatever decision the vet makes that Spunky comes sailing through the experience.
Real life always takes precedence over fiction writing. I agree and wish more writers would see this.
I am glad he came through the surgery ok. Its tough when your pet is so ill.

Without going into a long song and dance, I love my 3 cats, and know just how precious they are. Praying for spunky.
Thank you, everyone. We look forward to bringing Spunky home today. Poor thing has a cone of shame though. Yes, I will have to get a photo!
Real life always rules! Oh, I am so sad to hear Spunky is fighting~
He is gorgeous!
I hope and pray he will be fine! Our pets are our family. Hugs
Diane,
I hope everything is going okay and that he makes a full recovery.
I saw your today's post and dropping back here to say how I happy I am for you that he's going to be okay.
How upsetting! I'm so happy to hear he doing better.
I'm so happy to read in the post above that Spunky is doing well. Love him up! He's a beautiful, beautiful feline.
I hope Spunky will be OK. It's always hard when a pet gets a serious illness. Many times they're like family.
I hope Spunky is doing well and resting and recovering.
I better go check and see if I have this book of Alex's yet and if not, go get it!
Aw!!! Glad to hear Spunky is doing great. (sorry for my late visit, but at least I got the good news)
Our pets are like our children. We love them immensely. I know he'll pull through fine! I mean... look at his name!
I hope Spunky heals quickly and completely!
I read your post above. I'm glad Spunky is doing better and that was a great guest post.
I'm so sorry about Spunky :(
It's heartbreaking when something like that happens. Pets are so important, they're like family. I hope Spunky does really well now.
I'm happy that Spunky is better now.
Thank you, all. Spunky is a pretty boy and we will make his remaining days as happy as we can.
