Supportive Blogger Extraordinaire Contest!

The support and encouragement from other bloggers is wonderful. All the people who left comments regarding M. Pax’s book on Monday; those who responded to my request for quotes for my book; the bloggers who have helped with my past book launches; etc. Sometimes we don’t always get full support in the real world, but online, it is everywhere.

Who has supported you? Who encourages others? Who goes out of the way to notice a fellow blogger? Who champions others? Who is a positive influence in the blogging world?

I aim to find out!

This contest is two-fold. The first round will be the nominations. Tell me why the blogger you are nominating deserves to win. I will select the three most compelling arguments for three different bloggers and those will go up for a vote.

Supportive Blogger Extraordinaire Contest Rules:

1 - July 27 - August 5 - Nominations open. Leave a compelling comment - why does the blogger you are nominating deserve to win? What has that person done? What is that person’s character?

2 - The same blogger can be nominated more than once. (Just make your argument more compelling than the previous person’s.)

3 - Nominations open to everyone, but the person you nominate must be a blogger.

4 - I will select the three most compelling comments for three separate bloggers.

5 - Voting will open August 6 and run through August 11.

6 - Winner announced August 13.

7 - Prizes!

The three people making the most compelling arguments will receive a $10 Amazon gift card and that person’s choice of free ebook from my titles. (The Circle of Friends series and Overcoming Obstacles with SPUNK!)

The winner of the voting round will receive a $25 Amazon gift card and that person’s choice of free ebooks of all my titles OR two print copies. In addition, the person who nominated the winner also wins that prize package.

Now it’s up to you - who will you nominate?

Thanks, Karen.
Crap - compelling argument. Here goes...
Roland Yeomans - he is so rich with writing knowledge and willing to share it with the world. He's a loyal commenter and quick to champion others. And often he doesn't even realize the power of his support.

Totally agree with Karen's nomination of Alex! Not only is he a ninja commenter and supporter, but I feel like his true kindness shines through.

Arlee Bird - Lee's A to Z challenge has encouraged an incredible amount of people over the years. He's unfailingly supportive of his blogging buddies and he reaches out to all kinds of people.

(I probably cheated with 2, but those 2 jumped right out at me as soon as I read the post - there are many more I think who are wonderful as well, but I feel like I'm being pushy with 2...)

Wonderful selections. It's okay to cheat a little Jemi.

Can't agree more with Alex J. Cavanaugh. Insecure Writer's Support Group reaches out to so, so many individuals. I could go on for days, but Alex's blog speaks for itself.

Bish Denham said...

Angela Ackerman over at the Bookshelf Muse is my choice. It isn't just because of the Emotion Thesaurus, but because she is always willing to help and be a mentor. No matter how busy she is, she finds the time.

Kyra Lennon said...

What a fantastic idea!

I'd like to nominate Alex J. Cavanaugh for always staying on top of blogging events, for always offering to help others, for the Insecure Writers Support Group which has started many great blogging friendships and for basically being very, very genuine. :D

Alex and Roland are both amazingly supportive writer bloggers.

Sandra Ulbrich Almazan said...

I'd like to nominate Briane Pagel. He runs multiple blogs, interviews other authors, reviews their work, gives away their books as prizes, and is a general all-around nice guy. Please let me know if you need links to his blogs.

Tyrean Martinson said...

Alex J. Cavanaugh - he is everywhere on blogs - always encouraging, always commenting, always giving applause to each and every blogger and author that he knows. He is inspirational!

Susan Gourley/Kelley said...

I have to think about this and be at my most compelling self. Alex needs some competition.

Carol Kilgore said...

The Amazing Alex.

I'd also like to nominate Talli Roland. She's extremely supportive and hosts authors on a regular basis.

L. Diane Wolfe said...

You're all going to make it difficult!

I have so many amazing supporters. Alex, of course. Julie Flanders, Lynda Young, Laura Eno, Suze, Allan Douglas has been a great supporter of mine, Miranda Hardy, Jay Noel, Stephen Tremp, Clare Dunmore, you, Loretta Stephenson, Karen Brown ... and the list goes on. Only one? Gah.

I am going to go with Alex J. Cavanaugh. Simply because he was one of the first to follow me, has been a loyal follower even through hiatuses and the like. He always, ALWAYS comments on posts, even if it is just a little blurb saying I'll be back next week or something. He is very supportive of his fellow bloggers to the ends of the earth. He's a stand up kind of guy, one you would want to have at your back. He's never been biased, to my knowledge. He's always been fair in his support.
I'll stop rambling now. ;)

Very interesting. I love this contest. Greetings.

Alex J. Cavanaugh! He is omnipresent and supportive of everybody and everything! I can't even think of a close second! :)

Alex J Cavanaugh - Supportive blogger and encouraging friend to many.

Laura Eno and Brinda Berry - They are both the most supportive on and off the blogosphere. Always willing to lend a hand with no real acknowledgement.

Brinda provides valuable technical information to writers on her blog, and is always willing to answer questions.

Laura - Is ALWAYS supportive to everyone. She is a sweet, giving, loving, supportive, and amazingly talented blogger/writer.

Arlee Bird said...

Alex Cavanaugh is a hard man to beat in this department. Every one of his posts has something supportive for not just one but many bloggers. He has provided me with a great deal of support not only in my blogging, but in co-hosting the A to Z Challenge.

And speaking of that Challenge I will have to add all of my very supportive co-hosts. What a great group--I won't name them all here--love this team who made the A to Z such a breeze and a pleasure in 2012.

And, sorry, I must give an honorary mention to dear Yvonne Lewis at Welcome to My World of Poetry. She almost never fails to comment on my blogs and say wonderful things, but she's boosted my ego by including me in her profile picture. What an honor!

Sorry for taking so much space with this. Believe me--I could go on. There are so many supportive people in this wonderful blogging community.

I agree about Alex. Even though our connections have been sporadic, my fault not his, I have always seen him as so supportive of many bloggers.

I would also like to nominate Dani Greer of Blog Book Tours. She is an amazing supporter of writers and is always encouraging authors to blog, to promote, to be connected to each other and help each other.

My nomination is Alex J Cavanaugh,
He has been there for me through thick and thin.
When I felt like giving up,
Saying "Dont give up, you can win".

Although he is on the otherside of the pond.
Many miles apart.
He took the time to write a blurb.
On my book "Written from the Heart"

Yvonne.

I know I have nominated Alex but I in my haste forgot to mention Arlee Bird. His A to Z Challenge changed my blogging life and when I travelled to LA this year he took time out to come and met me and Keith my brother and tooks us around the sights. A wonderful day and a wonderful man.
Yvonne.

Talli Roland said...

Aw, thank you, Carol!

I'm going to go with Alex! He is uber-supportive.

What a great idea for a contest. Good luck to all the nominees.

Some excellent nominations.

Susan J. Reinhardt is my pick - I met Susan shortly after I began blogging. She patiently offered advice and support, tips and tricks, and led by wonderful example to help me grow and improve. Her mission is to connect readers and writers, doing so she is a great blessing to others.

This is a great idea, Diane. Thanks for doing this! :)

Michael Di Gesu said...

Hi, L. Diane.

What a wonderful way to acknowledge the leaders in our community.

For the past few months I had pulled back on my blogging because of work. I had for over a year been very involved in the blogging community and I know of three who are exceptional.

First, as so many people have already nominated, ALex J. Cavanaugh. There is no other word but AMAZING to describe what he has done for us. Alex had checked up on me on a regular basis to make sure I was okay and not in any trouble. WIth his busy blogging schedule AND the ability to visit hundreds of bloggers a day, he still found for me.

Second, as Alex himself has nominated, Roland Yeomans. Roland is indeed very special. He is the heart and soul of our community. NO One else has giving more incredible advice on the dos and don'ts of writing, how to market, how to do EVERYTHING that has to do with writing. Not to mention he, himself has published over a dozen book this year alone! He is beyond kind and I admire his sensitive style of writing.

Finally, Rachel Harrie. Rach has done SO much for platform building with her yearly Crusaders launches. Like the A-Z, Rach's Crusaders gave so many of us a way to meet new bloggers and connect with other writers in our perspective genres. Rach works tirelessly to make this event spectacular.

There are so many others of course, but these three amazing people are my nominees.

Trisha said...

In addition to the above, I'd also nominate:

Danette Baltzer, Hope Roberson, Kyra Lennon and Lara Schiffbauer. The last 3 are newer bloggers by comparison but they're definitely out & about!

Annalisa Crawford said...

My nomination is Alex too. My compelling argument is 'what everyone else said'!

Jo said...

I'm nominating Alex as well. For all the reasons already stated. He is a regular commenter on my blog.

Lee too also sprang to mind the minute I read your blog this morning.

Roland D. Yeomans said...

Thank you, Michael, Alex, and Johanna for the very kind words.

I must nominate Alex since he is undoubtedly the most kind and omnipresent friend to all of us in the blogverse.

There are so many of us laboring in the cyber shadows, helping where we can:
Michael Di Gesu, whose upbeat spirit infuses all he writes.

Christi Goddard, who points to others laboring in the shadows as with this past Indie Author Book Fair.

There are so many others of us just trying to be friends to one another.

Thanks, Diane, for letting me know a few have nominated me. Vote for Alex, guys! He deserves it! :-)

What a wonderful contest! I love the idea of this. It's no surprise that Alex J. Cavanaugh has received so many shout outs. He's amazing - incredibly supportive.

I'd also like to nominate Matt MacNish for his willingness to support other authors and Hope Roberson. I second her as well. She's a part of Falling for Fiction as well as Writing with Hope and is always out to encourage others!!

I'm going to have to check out some of these bloggers mentioned that I haven't met yet - great idea Diane!

Sherry Ellis said...

I'm going to have to go with Alex Cavanaugh. The time he invests in finding out what's going on in the writer's blogosphere and promoting it, is truly amazing, and worthy of recognition!

Alex the Ninja Captain! He is a Blog GOD!

ediFanoB said...

Without further ado I nominate Alex J. Cavanaugh. He is the most supportive blogger I know.

Nicole Zoltack said...

Since so many have nominated Alex, I'll nominate Matt MacNish. He generously gives his time and his blog to writes and helps to whip our query letters into shape.

Michelle Wallace said...

Without a doubt - the amazing Ninja Captain Alex J.Cavanaugh! He is simply awesome!

Southpaw said...

This is really hard. For me, it's Lee (http://writerleerobertson.wordpress.com/). She doesn't blog much herself, but she has never missed one of my posts and is always encouraging. AND she gets her writing out there and published.

M Pax said...

Since so many nominated Alex, I'm going to officially nominate Misha Gericke. Not only is she supportive to other writers on her great blog, she's always incredibly busy, yet always has time to crit my WIPs. Even when she's unpacking and I'm under deadline. She's come to an critical part of my team.

Plus, she looks so lovely in her photo. How can we not vote for that?

Hope Roberson said...

Alex--the super supporter in the blogosphere :) Seriously, in a league of his own!

Thank you Kimberly and Trisha! You ladies are too kind :)

I'd like to nominate them back since they're obviously supportive of other bloggers. And I need to nominate the ladies of Falling For Fiction (Cassie, Jade, Jenny, and Kelley)--created a blog just to support fellow bloggers--such fun and full of inspiration!

Susan Gourley/Kelley said...

So many great choices above and I agree with all of them. But just to widen the field a little, I'd like to nominate Cate Masters. Cate had her own blog but she's started the TBR blog and manages the guests there and the weekly blurb fests. She also started The Susquehanna Writers blog for writers local to our area. She's involved in other blogs and she's great about helping people get started with blogging. In person, she's a super kind lady. As a writing, she's one of the most prolific writers I know and she does multiple genres. Go, Cate!

Misha Gerrick said...

Awe thanks for the nomination, Mary! X

VikLit said...

Absolutely second/third/whatever it is now the nomination for Alex, super blogger, don't know how he has time for everyone but he does, and the IWSG is in a league of its own.

All the Falling For Fiction ladies deserve a nomination too, for having a blog full of inspiration and running an inspiring, writerly, helpful contest like Hookers and Hangers!

oops, I am late!
Alex gets the nod for awesome! He is like a superhero blogging cousin!
He visits many of us and cheers us up and reminds us to continue onward!
He is like Captain America, I mean
Captain Alex ;D

For me personally it's my friend and crit partner, Dianne Salerni over at In High Spirits. Finding her was a huge bonus of becoming part of blogland because she is the best cp a girl could ask for. But for overall most supportive blogger? I'd have to agree with almost everyone else that Alex C. does a pretty good job of being everywhere and supporting everyone. I still suspect he's somehow managed to clone himself or maybe he has a time-turner but however he does it he's always there to leave a comment on your blog, offer up some fun trivia, and shout about your contest or the good news you just got. If he was in my first grade class he would have already gotten all the gold stars.

Gossip_Grl said...

Sorry I missed the nominations, but I did get a chance to vote! :) Sounds like a great contest and can't wait to see the winner revealed! :)

Jeremy [Retro] said...

there are so many cool and supportive people out there, i find for my world... it will sound cocky i am sure, "Alex J. Cavanaugh, duh!" he has shown huge respect and support to many... with style and grace...

I'm late with this. But I think I mentioned when you first talked about this, You and Helen Ginger.

YOu guys were there when I started out and knew so little. Your patience in helping set up the blog and things like share buttons, suggestions for building a readership, all numerous nuts and bolts both of you shared were a blessing to me. Both of you are professionals and very giving of time and knowledge. You both recommended me to others and were some of my first followers. No offense to the others nominated--they deserve the nominations, but from my personal view, it's Helen Ginger and Diane Wolfe.

Alex Cauvanaugh for president! Erm, I mean for Most Supportive Blogger! No contest.

Anonymous said...

Alex Cauvanaugh would make a great president b/c he would actually listen to his people!! And Angie Ackerman for vice prez b/c I truly won't write without the Emotional Thesaurus open on my Kindle!

MAJK said...

Alex J Cauvanaugh - he is great at offering first time bloggers and newbie writers encouragement. He created a support group to combat the fear and doubt many writers face daily. If he were any more supportive he'd be a Miracle Bra.
