A to Z Challenge - Work Ethic

For the A to Z Challenge, my topic is leadership and goal-setting. I am posting short excerpts from my book, Overcoming Obstacles with SPUNK! The Keys to Leadership and Goal-Setting, along with an inspiring photo. Enjoy and dream big!

Work Ethic

Proper work ethic implies that we should display all of the qualities we want our people to possess. As a leader, we should work harder and encourage more often than anyone else in the organization. We must set the example and achieve results, not just activity. Followers will emulate our bad traits faster than our good traits, so provide them with as few negative habits as possible!

Making a good impression and becoming a leader through hard work sounds like a great approach!

Those marbles in the picture are about to go flying, I can tell!

Oh! Your cats make me want one. All we have are barn cats and they are strange undomesticated creatures. They way they should be, I suppose. I must have a good work ethic as some mornings I feel I've slaved my life away!

Oddly, I found it easy to maintain a good work ethic when I worked for someone else, heading a department and leading/directing other. Now that it's just me - it's harder.

As I teenager I noticed a good work ethic in school was detested by my peers. Can we say teacher's pet?

But when I got a job as a concessionist at the theater, the opposite was true. The worst part of clean-up was the popper. I insisting on doing every night. Then my friend got into the act and 'stole' the job from me. Then the whole crew was fighting for the 'privilege' of cleaning that greasy monster.

Yes, this is so important! Leaders must be willing to do everything that they expect everyone else to do.

When I was managing that office, one thing I knew was that if I was even a minute late then I could expect all my employees to be late too. You're so right about people following bad habits faster than good habits (although I managed to instill a few good habits too).

Good point about people following your negative rather than positive traits. Amazing how that happens!
