My very special guest today is fellow Dancing
Lemur Press author, Charlette Denise Sutton. I’ve known Denise for many years and she’s an
accomplished author and songwriter. Her Ebook, Seizing Opportunities That
Propel You Forward, officially comes out Tuesday. I asked Denise what led to
the creation of this book. (And it’s a wonderful read if you’re in need of some
inspiration!)
My first love has always been poetry because
I have always believed that something introduced in rhyme is more
memorable. However, after publishing two
books of poetry and going to workshops and book signings with other writers, I
found that I was the only one that wrote just poetry. I soon found that most
writers concentrate on different genres of writing to increase their
exposure. So I decided to expand the
type of writing that I would promote in order to reach a larger audience. I
briefly considered fiction but soon found out that coming up with plots and
endings did not interest me. I did remember, though, that I had a great love
for empowering and motivating others and thus came up with the ideas behind Seizing
Opportunities That Propel You Forward.
Every day, I meet people who seem to be
frustrated because they do not know what their talent or "calling"
is, or in other scenarios, know what their talent is, but don't know how to use
it to get the most potential out of it.
That is when I decided to write a book to encourage people to stop just
looking for big events that may take years to occur and search for small things
that could make their dreams explode into reality over time. As I began
gathering material, I became more aware of how often even I have passed up
small opportunities that could have been a large breakthrough in disguise. I often remember the words of wisdom that
tell us to not look down on humble beginnings, for they often lead to great
things. Constantly putting in place the principles that I teach has led me to
"think outside of the box" and grow in my own creativity and I feel
that it could do the same for others.
Sharing this knowledge is truly an exciting and rewarding experience.

Author, Speaker, Songwriter
Writing poetry since grade school, she discovered at an early age how comforting words can be in lifting people out of despair and pushing them towards achievement. Each word she writes is carefully chosen to bring meaning and relevance to others. Seizing Opportunities That Propel You Forward, stresses the importance of
finding powerful opportunities to make a difference in everyday living. Instead of becoming discouraged from not
encountering those envisioned "big breaks", readers are encouraged to
watch for those "little instances" that could profoundly affect their
lives and forever change their destiny. Many people overlook the challenge of
finding creative and almost hidden ways to make their skills, knowledge, and
connections work for them. This book focuses on preparing yourself daily to
take full advantage of every situation that comes your way! One of her favorite
excerpts from the book include:
“Looking high, looking low…
How much farther do I need to go?
It took a while, but now I understand
The ‘opportunity’ I was searching for was right in my hand!”
What led you on your chosen writing path?

What a great idea for a book. It's true, many wonder what they should do with their lives. This book will be really helpful.
Interesting. I, too, first started writing poetry. It was my first love but then I discovered a knack for writing fiction. It's what I love more than anything. Now if there was just a way to make it pay.... Regardless of the money, it sure is nice to be doing what you love.
This is great. Sometimes people just need that extra "push". :)
Great to meet Charlette. Best wishes to her and the success of Seizing Opportunities!
Great advice! I admit, I'm guilty of overlooking small opportunities because I'm focused on looking for the big ones.
That's a fantastic topic which I'm sure will help many people! Funnily enough, I've blogged today about seizing my opportunity for writing.
Yvonne, she definitely writes what she loves.
Her book is wonderful and I hope everyone has a chance to read it.
Thanks everyone. I enjoyed coming up with the concepts for this book. I hope these ideas really catch on!.....
Nice meeting you Charette! The books looks so helpful. :)
Thanks, Diane, for introducing us to Charlette.

How inspiring! I'm adding Seizing Opportunities That Propel You Forward to my list, too!
Thank you all for your comments. This inspires me. Encouraging others comes naturally when you have a great teacher, aka Spunk on a Stick! Of the time I have known her, she has always been a go-getter...
Thanks Diane for introducing me to these writers and potential readers.
Sounds like an inspirational book!
I started writing when I was really little. but it wasn't until a few years ago I even considered actually publishing it. I have no idea what propelled me, to be honest. Maybe I finally felt confident enough.
Congratulations on your book, Denise. It takes a special person to inspire others. I bet your book does well. Fiction is a harder sell than Nonfiction. Best of luck to you!
My first poem was when I lost my 16 yrs old dog.......never written before. Then 7 yrs later wrote a poem on the birth of our first grandchild Josh. Little did I think that ten days later mum would have left me and husband diagnosed with terminal cancer.
After his passing two months after mum I put all my thoughts dreams and memories into poems that was 13 yrs ago. That's what inspired me to write.
Yvonne.
Writing can be great therapy. That is why I encourage everyone that writes to keep that pen flowing!...
Wonderful post. I think you have to seize the opportunity when it arises, you can't just sit back and hope it happens.
Your books sounds great.
Sounds like a good book and helpful too.
Denise, hope you book is a big hit today!
This sounds like an intriguing book - on that can apply to everyone. Thanks for bringing it to our attention, and good luck on opening day!
Yes, one never knows whether or not an opportunity will present itself more than once, so never just let it pass you by!.... What I love about the ideas in this book is that they are not new but just friendly reminders of how to succeed more in life.
I've missed many opportunities in my life because I didn't open myself up to them. Success comes from overcoming one's mistakes and learning from them. You're on a great mission and I congratulate for what you're doing and the lives you are touching.
Poetry is more than just verse. There is poetry in words, actions, and everything that surrounds us. It's up to us to catch the rhythm of our worlds.
