Facebook Acquires Digital Book Maker

Publishers Weekly announced this week that Facebook has acquired digital book publisher, Push Pop Press:

Facebook has acquired Push Pop Press, a digital book maker with a focus on the iPad and iPhone. According to a statement on Push Pop's website, "Facebook isn't planning to start publishing digital books, [but] the ideas and technology behind Push Pop Press will be integrated with Facebook, giving people even richer ways to share their stories."

Both companies claim Facebook is not moving into ebook publishing, but rather expanding on the site’s interactive platform.

However, since everyone seems to be getting into the ebook craze, we have to wonder.

What do you think Facebook will do with Push Pop Press? And should they pursue ebook publishing?

I don't think FB should pursue ebook publishing, but they might be able to introduce some really fun things on FB using the technology. I'll be interested to see what they come up with!

Somehow I can't imagine this! I guess they're trying to just find ways to expand their brand.

Not sure what exactly they'll do, but it does seem like a sensible match. I don't much like the name "Push Pop Press"--it sounds like some kind of weight-lifting technique.

With FB who knows what they'll try. I imagine a lot of e publishers will fall by the side of the road the way dot com's did and the way other social networks are being gobbled up now.

I'm so over FB, I'm more interested in where Google is going. But to answer, it all is about the bottom line. Really, how long can one actually play farmtown and be happy? :)

Interesting. FB is growing on me. Perhaps I can post some free reads there in future.
