Today's post is the best in movies.
These are just my opinion. I have not seen everything that came out this year. But the following were highlights of the movie industry for me!
FIVE BEST MOVIES OF 2009:
#1
AVATAR
Yes, you probably saw that one coming!
Incredible film. Exceeded expectations. Can't wait to go see it again this Thursday!
Sets the standard for movies to follow...
Zombieland
Funniest movie of the year!
Woody Harrelson in prime form. And the best rules and guidelines for surving a zombie apocalypse.
Always remember to double tap!
#3
The Blind Side
Sweetest film of the year.
Just a good, solid, moving story without the overly sappy syrup that can accompany such flicks.
Hope Sandra Bullock gets an Oscar nod for her role.
#4
Star Trek
Best reboot. Ever.
As a die-hard fan of the original, I was curious how they would bring this serving to the next generation.
The result is a refreshing new take and an exciting movie.
#5
Inglorious Basterds
I'm a fan of Quentin Tarantino's work. He's all about the characters.
This movie is also incredibly funny and over the top.
And gosh if that ending isn't just uber-satisfying!!
OTHER NOTEABLES:
District 9
Very original and well-done, although depressing.
Night at the Museum 2
Yes, a silly pick - but loved the sweet innocence.
Fast & Furious
As good as the first one. And Vin Diesel rocks.
DISAPPOINTMENTS:
Terminator Salvation
I don't even want to discuss it!!!!
Up
That's right. I was disappointed! The movie was depressing...
WORLD-WIDE BOX OFFICE WINNERS:
Who cares your opinion or mine? These were the five biggest money-makers of 2009. (Excluding Avatar, who's release is too new.) All totals in millions of dollars...
Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince $925,956,980
Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs $886,973,705
2012 $731,774,000
Up $702,579,556
New Moon $658,520,062
So, what were your favorite movies of 2009?

How embarrassing – the only movie listed that I saw was District Nine. I need to get out more! I guess my favorites are ones that made me laugh like The Hangover and Julia and Julia.
I haven't been to the movies near enough to have an opinion. I'm definitely getting out more in 2010!
Thanks for the great suggestions. With the one's I've seen, I totally agree with your list. Went to see Sherlock Holmes last night and think it should be included.
I don't see a lot of movies either, but I loved the new Star Trek. I'm another Trek fan, and was a little leary, but I loved it :)
Blindside & Harry Potter were awesome as well! I haven't seen the others yet.
I can beat Jane...I haven't seen any of them! I need to start renting some movies.
Elizabeth
Mystery Writing is Murder
Jane & Elizabeth - you need to resolve to see more movies!
Terry, we are catching the new Sherlock Holmes in about one hour...
And Jemi, I was really relieved with how they handled Star Trek. I loved the movies and series and was just so worried...
And I really liked their choice of Spock!
As a self-proclaimed movie buff, I missed all of your top five movies. Been a busy year. I will see Avatar this week at the IMAX, once the crowds die down a bit.
I also like Boondock Saints very much. Some may not like the language, but living in a house full of estrogen, I needed a guy movie like that to balance out my universe.
Stephen Tremp
The Blind Side and Star Trek. Ask me again after Wednesday and I hope to add Avatar. Already have my tickets to go see it.

Straight From Hel
The only ones I've seen so far are Star Trek, which I enjoyed greatly, and Harry Potter ... had fun with that one as well. Inglorious Basterds and District 9 are in my Netflix queue. I plan to go see Avatar some time this week, and possibly Sherlock Holmes too.
Loved Star Trek, and GOTTA go see AVATAR - heard so much about it. Thanks for the recommendations!

It was extremely interesting for me to read this post. Thank author for it. I like such themes and everything connected to them. I definitely want to read a bit more on that blog soon.
Hope several of you will be adding Avatar this week to your top movies list! It is a MUST see in the 3D. I'm guessing Cameron will withhold the DVD release until 3D home technology is ready, too.
Mike, isn't NetFlix awesome? I do want to see the Harry Potter movie. Just missed it this year.
Diane, I know I'm not on your Sci-Fi wave length but I vote for Rob Marshall's Nine. I think it may be the best musical ever made. And certainly Academy Award material.
Best,
Carolyn

You have three of my faves on your list. I also really liked Harry Potter 6
Avatar is a great pic and Sherlock Holmes was great, too!
And any world with Star Trek is a good world.
