Thursday Excerpt - Opportunities!

Please welcome guest author, Denise Sutton!

Denise and I met several years ago and at the insistance of another friend. (In fact, he called me and then her and forced us to meet over the phone!) Denise is one of those awesome cheerleader types and it was she who suggested I begin offering seminars to help other writers and authors. I owe my success in that area to this wise woman! Denise also contributed two chapters to my book, Overcoming Obstacles with SPUNK!.

So please everyone give a warm welcome to my buddy, Denise!

Regardless of our race, gender, nationality, or past, we each have something in common, and that is...

Opportunities

Here are several questions for you:

What opportunities “pop up” in your life?

What do you do with those “breaks”?

Do you capitalize on them?

Or, are they long gone before you recognize their value?

Do you look back at the past with regret?

What would you do if you had another chance?

Are you tired of looking back on missed opportunities? Stop and take stock of your life right now! Realize each day gives you new chances to impact your future in a powerful way. Grasp those chances before they disappear. Enjoy a journey that turns these breaks into milestones that spur you toward your new destination!

“Looking high, looking low…
How much farther do I need to go?
It took a while, but now I understand
The ‘opportunity’ I was searching for was right in my hand!”

The book, Seizing Opportunities That Propel You Forward, stresses the importance of seeing everyday events as opportunities to make a powerful difference in the world around you. Many people become discouraged because they do not see the big breaks that they feel could be the key to reaching their goals. In doing so, they often overlook those small opportunities that could make or break their chance of fulfilling their purpose in life. This book strives to enlighten everyone with the fact that "big things often do come in small packages!"

Denise Sutton began writing seriously in 2003 when she introduced her first book as a collection of poetry entitled My Words and Me. She later self published a second book, Do You Know Him? in 2004. In 2005, she co-produced two CD's, "Words Can't Tell" and "What's in it for God." Seizing Opportunities that Propel You Forward is her first motivational book. Denise strives to write articles and poetry that inspire others to think while improving their lives in some way. One can view more of her work by visiting her website My Words And Me You may also check Denise out on My Space and Facebook.

Thanks for the encouraging post! You're right--we need to recognize and capitalize on opportunities that come our way and not let insecurities or other obstacles hold us back.

Great feature. Right up my alley with the positive and motivational message - and reminder!

It's so easy to become caught up in whirlwinds of circumstances, resulting in our not recognizing opportunities that may be right in front us.

Opportunities do not always shout out to you, "HEY! HERE I AM! THAT OPPORTUNITY YOU'VE BEEN WAITING FOR!" It's important to be open and aware so that when they do present themselves we can then reach out and seize them.

Of equal importance is to appreciate them when we've been blessed with them.

Denise sounds like my kinda gal and author. This here-

"This book strives to enlighten everyone with the fact that 'big things often do come in small packages!'"

That says everything.

Thanks for this great post. I loved your book and I'm going to have to check out hers as well. Too often we let opportunities pass us by.

I really like the poem (or piece of poetry) that you included. It's so true. So often the opportunity is in our hands; we just don't recognize it as an opportunity.

This sounds like a book that I would love to read. I am in a place right now where I could use some input on changing what I do for a living. I feel that I am not in the "right" place...there may be a better opportunity for me out there. :)

Thank you for all of your inspiring comments. Now, I know why I write and that is to encourage others to be the best that they can be and to always think as positive as possible. As a psychiatric nurse, I know how powerful words can be in our everyday lives. On the heels of today's tragic news of Fort Hood, I know that the world is always in need of another inspiring word!

Love this post. I love hearing how other author/speakers grabbed opportunity and didn't let it slip by!

Sometime, I'd love to hear how you create your speaking opportunities.
