Let it Snow

Yes, it is actually snowing at the moment - we never see it in Eastern NC, so it's a bit of a novelty. At the moment though, I am trying not to let it become a distraction, as I have so much to do today! Fighting the photographer in me (not to mention the little kid) will be tough...

Writer's block is often blamed, but I think distractions are the most detrimental. One little thing can throw us for a loop and completely offset our plans for the day. Phones, unexpected emails, housework, pets... (And I have two black, furry little distractions that excel at disrupting my plans!) Now I understand why some writers lock themselves in a cabin for three months...

In the meantime, I'll just keep watching the snow!

Yes - ENJOY the snow - let it fascinate and dazzle you - meditate on it - a well-spring of things to write about will bubble up in your mind and soul.

Nothing new up here in Michigan - got a couple FEET of the stuff on the ground (smile)

I guarantee you if we had snow in central Texas, even a few flakes, all else would stop and we would be out reveling in it.

But I do agree that distractions can stop progress. Unfortunately, it's easy to let other things get in the way. So I applaud you for keeping your focus!

I know how you feel. Sometimes I got to disconnect the network cable from the computer or turn it off entirely and work on something else.

We were supposed to have snow last night (western SC), but it never showed up. We're right up against the Blue Ridge Mtns., and the snow often "jumps" over the top of us. Still, I'm holding out for at least a ground cover this winter.

I'm jealous! I'm in OK. So we do get our share of snow, but so far this winter, we've not had any to speak of.

Distractions...now that's an entirely different topic!

I ADORE snow. (Here in southern Connecticut we have about 6 inches on the ground right now.)

But as a fellow writer, I understand all about distractions--and so agree with you that one little thing can throw us for a loop.

I'm one of those authors who has been sequestering herself each summer in a remote lakeside cabin. It's the place where I've made the most progress. But don't get too jealous. The family friend who in previous years has given me free use of the house has now retired and expects from now on to use it himself. (Sigh.)

I like snow when there is tons and it forces my office to close. But when it's a little bit then it's not so great.

I do get easily distracted. Right now Rascal has her rawhide bone in her mouth and is running around the house looking for a place to hide it. Very cute and distracting.

... Here in Northern California, where the weather is sunny and more like spring. Nice but . . . no water!! We need rain!! (And I get distracted by all kinds of things, weather included.)
