The Insecure Writer’s Support Group and Lantern Festival Pictures

It’s time for another edition of The Insecure Writer’s Support Group, founded by Ninja Captain, Alex J. Cavanaugh.

January 7 question - Is there anything in your writing plans for 2026 that you are going to do that you couldn't get done in 2025?

I’m still considering a charcuterie board cookbook, although there are a lot out there. I’m also thinking about some writing for fun. Something that doesn’t need to be published. I certainly have enough short stories written plus tons of ideas for more.

December was way busier than I wanted. Physical therapy every week, Christmas and New Year’s, my husband’s 60th birthday, TSO concert, Lantern Festival, Christmas parties, appointments…you get the idea! So, more than anything, I want more space and time this year. I like to run (my 5k time is under 39 minutes now) but I don’t like THAT kind of running around.

I’ll leave you with the Christmas meal (sandwiches & stuff) Charcuterie board and some pictures from the Chinese Lantern Festival. It was rather amazing!

Wow, all the pictures are amazing!

You and I have similar goals for 2026. I think I need to work in some breathing time to just read, watch the birds at my feeder, and stare off into space. I've been working at a frantic pace for so long that slowing down is challenging, though.

The festival looks magical. I'm sure a cookbook would be well received as many will want to know your secrets!

I was thinking a fun piece for this year too, short-ish, silly, and fun. You know to shake of last year. 😁🙄

Happy New Year! I like the idea of a Charcuterie cookbook by someone I know. I had Charcuterie for New Years. It was something easy to put together while being sick. Love the pictures. The festival seems like a good time.

I always get hungry seeing your Charcuterie boards. We eat with our eyes first, as they say. Just wish I could eat with my mouth too!

I would love to see you do a charcuterie cookbook, Diane! I am always drooling over your boards. The Chinese Lantern Festival is gorgeous. Happy birthday to your husband. I hope you find the space and time you are looking for.

What a feast. If you keep feeding everyone, they will never go home.

I love the pics. So pretty. What a lovely way to end or begin the year. :-)

Love the pictures! Taking a little breather before you dive into anything new sounds good. Maybe you could put all your short stories together into one book?

The lantern festival looks like fun.

Elizabeth, four books a year for so many years - I am in awe.

Melissa, it was stunning. And that butterfly is HUGE.

Toi, sorry you were sick.

Hi Diane - congratulations to your hubby for his 60th - while those charcuteries boards look so delicious!! Maybe you could do an A-Z style charcuteries book ... Appetising Bold Charcuterie - 26 Boards?! Cheers and all the best this year - Hilary

Love the lantern festival photos! Writing for fun is good--on some level, all my writing is for fun (the money I make is little enough not to really change that assessment!). But sometimes really just letting go and writing whatever the heck you want with no consideration of genre conventions, audience, or anything else is good.

Those photos are super! I'd like to check out a Chinese lantern festival sometime! And your banquet table layout looks good to eat as always!

You do such an amazing job with your charcuterie boards, so I bet you'd enjoy making a book of it. Plus you already have some great pictures. I'd say go for it. Wishing you a Happy 2026!

Someday I would love to see a TSO concert. Wow, you are so busy always. One of my favorite pass-times is to write something for the sheer joy of writing - just for myself.
