The Insecure Writer’s Support Group and Latest Food Boards

It’s time for another edition of The Insecure Writer’s Support Group, founded by Ninja Captain, Alex J. Cavanaugh.

The question for today: What is the most favorite thing you have written, published or not? And why?

Many years ago, I had this dream of an amazing place filled with books, magic, and treasures. As I do with most cool dream elements, I jotted it down.

A few years later, I began to craft a story about it, placing a group of vampires on a quest to find it. 2015 I finished and polished it – and then it just sat there as I worked hard with my Dancing Lemur Press authors.

Finally, I sent it to our editor and it was published as a novella in 2023. (And later as one of four stories in my In Darkness book.)

That story was The Vampire. It’s paranormal romance, but of the four stories, it contains probably the least amount of romance, focusing on the adventure. I am so, so proud of that one! It took forever to come to pass but I’m glad it finally did!

Do have a favorite story you’ve written?

Charcuterie Time!

And finally, second carpal tunnel surgery done and I will soon have two working hands again.

Oh man! Surgery... Here's hoping you find relief.

I love vampire stories! Obviously, I've been so out of the loop I didn't realize you'd written some. Going to have to get on board and check those out!

It's awesome how you got the idea for your favorite story. I hope your hands heal quickly, and that the surgery solved your carpel tunnel problems.

Hope your healing goes well. It's always nice when a story sees the light of day especially if it's a long time in the making!

Oh, "... a place filled with books, magic, and treasures ..." I want to find that place too and live there full time, even though I'm not a vampire.
Your boards are amazing.

Oh stop with those gorgeous charcuterie boards that make my mouth water, Diane! 😂 Your Darkness book was so good. I enjoyed all four stories. My favorite was the shark love story. Your poor hand looks so painful and uncomfortable. Here's to two working hands asap!

It's so good to look back at something you know you did well. I LOVE your charcuterie boards. Not sure I ever commented but I saved a picture of one of yours and used it for a family gathering. Glad your wrists will be improving.

Ouch! That looks nasty—hope that you get great results, though! Love your charcuterie boards :). As for favorite stories—I struggle to choose. I’d find it easier maybe to pick a least favorite, but even that would be a challenge.

I think when it takes so long to get a story published, it really makes you appreciate when it happens. All your stories are so good! Sorry about all the carpal tunnel surgeries you've had. Hopefully everything will be fine now. Love the board. You did a nice job organizing it!
