The Insecure Writer's Support Group, Fayetteville Fan Fest, and Pineapple Cat

It’s time for another edition of The Insecure Writer’s Support Group, founded by Ninja Captain, Alex J. Cavanaugh.

October 7 question - Many people are calling for writers who use AI to disclose it. Most who employ ghostwriters do not admit it - do you think authors who use ghostwriters should have to disclose that, too?

There are a lot of celebrity books that are not written by the celebrity author. (A few are, mostly children’s books though.) A few list a co-author, but most claim to be written by the celebrity. Which they are not. I think that is infuriating to all of the hard-working authors out there who slave over their own words. These celebrities get big book deals with agents and they didn’t even write the book. So, I say just do away with ghostwriting and credit the actual writer, even if only a co-author.

Dancing Lemur Press will be at Fayetteville Fan Festival On October 31 – Halloween! The cosplay and costume contest will be amazing. Come visit our booth – we are one of the first ones inside the door!

I also have an article in September's Speaking of Writing. It's a free online magazine so check it out

I ordered a shirt last month from author/illustrator H.R. Sinclair

I am a big fan of “Noodle Cat” (see second photo) so “Pineapple Cat” was a must have for me.

She has so many amazing shirts, stickers, etc. I recommend checking out her store.

What do you think about “authors” who use ghostwriters?

I agree, they deserve credit.
Cool shirt!

I totally agree with your answer about celebrities who have ghostwriters write their books. Have fun at the festival. Diane, I'm so sorry that you couldn't access my blog last month. I fixed the problem.

Credit to the writers! Yes.

Fun shirts! I better not show those to my daughter. She'll flip out.

I don't have an issue with an author's writing process, so long as it doesn't break any laws, and the finished product is good quality. Authors who utilize ghostwriters must polish the draft then deal with the publishing and marketing side of the business. If they can figure out a way to leverage their time and make more money, more power to them. A ghostwriter is a tool just like AI.

I love those shirts! I agree that they deserve credit, and authors shouldn't have to go around saying, "And I have a couple more books I've written, but I can't disclose their titles." :)

Ghostwriters have existed for a long time. I think most people can tell that books by celebrities weren't written by that celebrity. And if the ghostwriter is ok being a ghost, oh well. LOve the cat t-shirts. I have a few people on my Christmas list who will love them.

Those are really cute shirts! You already know what I think re: ghostwriters. ;)

Cute shirt! Have fun at the festival! Yeah, I think ghost writers should get credit. It doesn't seem fair that they do the hard work and don't get recognized.

Some of the ghostwriters are absolutely amazing (Andre Agassi's comes to mind). They should all be credited. Even an "as told to ___).

Such a great shirt!

I agree with your post 100%. Lovely T-shorts.

Thanks for the shout out. I'm so glad you like the design and shirt. The ramen eating cat is such a big meme, I wanted to do my take on it!

Credit the true writers. The celebrity books are all about making money. I hope you have lots of success at the Fayetteville Fan Fest, Diane, and congratulations on your article in Speaking of Writing. I will check it out. Love the photos of you in the two fun t-shirts.

I agree with you about the ghostwriting. There's celebrities out there who either cant write well or just dont have the time to write their own autobiographies or memoirs. So they hire a professional to do it but then want their own name slapped on the cover in big letters as if they wrote it! If they want their story written then sure hire a pro to write it but as a biography not as an autobiography as if it were they're own words! That's so deceiving and plays us readers for dumb!

That's neat that your doing a con on Halloween! There's plenty of room for Halloween in those!

You wear those cute kitty shirts well, Diane.
Yes, I do think ghostwriters should be made known. It's too much work to write a book for someone else to get credit.
Happy Halloween time.

Great shirts! They look good on you!

Ghostwriters should definitely get the credit. Or be paid a heck of a lot more than they are.

Holly, I'm glad you did. Love the shirt.

Steven, there will be a lot of people dressed up that day which will be fun.

I'm glad everyone likes the shirts. I must have 100 cat shirts now. LOL

Yeah, acknowledging ghostwriters would be a far more honest approach.
