The Insecure Writer’s Support Group, AI and Writing, and Greenville Comic Con

It’s time for another edition of The Insecure Writer’s Support Group, founded by Ninja Captain, Alex J. Cavanaugh.

The question for today: Do you use AI in your writing and if so how? Do you use it for your posts? Incorporate it into your stories? Use it for research? Audio?

Unless I am using it without knowing, I don’t use AI for anything. Spellcheck and Google searches are merely programs. So is Publisher Rocket. PhotoShop recently offered me the new AI tutorial and I said no. If you’ve been dabbling with it, let me know what works best for research because that I would use.

Dancing Lemur Press will be at Greenville Comic Con in Greenville, NC this Saturday, August 10th from 10-5pm!

This is one of our favorite cons. Well attended, reasonable cost, and people who like to spend money. We’re always one of the first booths by the entrance, which really helps.

If you live anywhere in Eastern NC, come check it out. We're waiting for you!

  1. Have fun at the con. I've used Al at work to write articles for websites. It requires so much editing that I've gone back to writing the articles for now. I enjoy it more.

  3. What works for me is using AI to for language... Sci-fi and fantasy stories need their own terms. Think Jedi, lightsaber, etc. I use AI to describe an object and then play with their word choices to make up something of my own. My latest big thing was a goo gun.

As crazy as it sounds, it's perfect for the story. hehehe

  6. Looks like we aren't going to be able to attend this year, but I'll be thinking of you. Have fun, fun, fun:)

  7. That 'con' looks like so much fun.

And oh my, when you mentioned PhotoShop offering AI stuff that hit a nerve. Everything I use is offering that now or flashing a thing at me to use it. It's really annoying.

  8. Enjoy the convention! I agree on your assessment of programs vs. AI--I was rating ProWritingAid as decidedly A but not very I :D You remind me that when I use some of the automated features in Lightroom, that's a sort of AI-light.

  9. Enjoy ComicCon! Funny how they spent all this money to create AI, but forgot to research what people want it to do. And trying to cram it down our throats isn't working.

  10. Hi Diane - sounds like an ideal 'con' - so pleased for you ... well set up etc - AI ... I wouldn't know, but I certainly wouldn't knowingly use ... enjoy the summer - cheers Hilary

  11. I hope the Con works well for you and you sell lots of books.
I never thought to use AI for research. Maybe...

  12. Anna, a goo gun - LOL!

Sandra, we'll miss you. Hurricane almost messed it up but looks like it will be outta here Friday afternoon.

    Holly, it is annoying.

  13. I'm curious about using AI for research/brainstorming but I haven't tried it yet.
Have a great time at the con!

  14. I tried Grammarly for a bit but I noticed too many mistakes so I couldn't relax long enough to continue using it.

I don't use AI knowingly either. But if anyone knows of a good one for SEO I'd like to hear about it, since I wasn't born to be a marketer (which itself i only use as a tool, not a way of life).

Thats neat that you're doing a booth at a con! Cons a great for promoting your books.

  18. I used it once to prompt myself to write more persuasively when I was coming up with an elevator speech and log line. I found it to be more trite than original in language.

  19. Enjoy the convention! Is Google AI though? I'm sure it's creeping in everywhere.

  20. I would love to attend the comic con in NC. But, I'm in Michigan. We love NC. GT was stationed in Goldsboro and fell in love with the area. Wishing you great success with book sales!

  21. I haven't use it either and the way I adapt to technology, I don't see it happening anytime soon.

  22. Enjoy the con.

I recently unsubscribed from an author's newsletter who was advocating - and selling a guide - on using AI for book covers. I couldn't believe that one creative person was dismissing the skill of others.

  23. Thanks for stopping by my blog. It's too bad we didn't make it to the Con this weekend. We had talked about it, but then our dog passed away. I hope you had fun and made tons of sales.

  24. Steven, we discovered several years ago that comic cons were the best fit for us.

JQ, that's wild you know Goldsboro!

Toi, I am so very sorry.
