Today’s question:
Of all the genres you read and write, which is your favorite to write in and why?
That is a tough question. Between my own reading habits and reading DLP submissions, I read a lot of genres, and with my own writing, I’m working on my 4th genre.
I love stories with a little romance to them. (I also loved the movie A Little Romance – does anyone remember it?) DLP doesn’t publish romance outside of YA, but I enjoy writing stories with that element strongly present. My series has it, as does the paranormal stories I’m working on.
I also enjoy non-fiction. And writing it is even easier than fiction for me.
And I’d updated my How to Publish and Promote Your Book Now eBook last summer, but it really went through a new update and edit last month.
Plus a new cover!
So the new eBook version is live and the new print version will be available very, very soon.
Yes, I took a window of opportunity and worked on something of my own.
Buy it on Amazon / Barnes & Noble
(I got to see this book before its release and it’s really cute.)
The Missing Alphabet
A Gregory Green Adventure
By Elaine Kaye
The paper alphabet letters in Gregory Green’s classroom have gone missing, and it’s up to him and his friends to find those missing letters. They go on a hunt through the school, hoping to find them. They spot letters next to things that start with those letters, like B for Bananas in the cafeteria. But will they be able to find the entire alphabet?
The Missing Alphabet is a great story for children learning to associate letters with objects, and four activities throughout the book will further help children to get familiar with the alphabet.

June 1st was Hickory Con, a new con to us. And despite the travel time (7 hours total) it was very successful. We also found out about a new con in Savannah, GA, and I can hang in that city any time.
We promoted all titles, but especially our most recent – Big Red sold well and Music Boxes sold out!
And speaking of Music Boxes…
Music Boxes by Tonja Drecker was named by Barnes & Noble as one of 5 Spooky New Middle Grade Books for Campfire Chills!
That’s right – in the middle of four books by the BIG FIVE publishers was Music Boxes.
And I couldn’t be more proud of Tonja and her book.
I’ll end with some fun photos from Hickory Con:
Hickory, as in Hickory, NC? I didn't realize that they had one! You always find the coolest conferences. One in Savannah would be a lot of fun.
ReplyDeleteAnother author told me about it. They have a con twice a year and I was surprised how many people were there.
DeleteSo glad you took time out to write for yourself. I'm trying to squeeze in that time too. And that is awesome about Tonja's book being listed in the top 5 by Barnes and Noble. So excited for her.
ReplyDeleteI love Savannah. We went there for our honeymoon.
Tonja and I were over the moon when we found out.
DeleteThe con pictures are great! Well done to Tonja - so exciting and well deserved!
ReplyDeleteI have the previous edition of your book - it's a great resource for writers.
Cheers - Ellen
Would you like the updated ebook version?
DeleteThat would be great!
DeleteI always love seeing the pictures you post from your con events. The costumes are fantastic.
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to seeing Elaine's new book!
Those pics are awesome. I love when you post con pics. It's great to see people dress up and interested in books!
ReplyDeleteI don't remember "A Little Romance" but I just watched the trailer. It looks cute!
It was such a sweet movie. I need to find it on DVD.
DeleteHow fun! I love seeing all of Tonja's successes. Dancing Lemur has to be one of the most supportive publishers out there.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the update of your fabulous must-have book for published authors.
Thank you, Nicki.
DeleteAlways love seeing the pics from the conventions!
ReplyDeleteNon-fiction has always been intimidating for me. Give me a story to write over an essay any day. That's probably why I don't miss school...
Congratulations to Tonja Drecker. I need to read Music Boxes asap.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on updating your non-fiction book. It's one of the first craft books I purchased back in the day, and such a wonderful resource for writers.
ReplyDeleteCongrats to Tonja! It's so exciting to read that her book sold out!
Thank you, Michelle. Would you like the updated ebook version?
DeleteCongratulations on redoing your book and that is so cool about Tonja's book.
ReplyDeleteLove the pictures. And woot for updating your book! I'll have to check out the update. :)
ReplyDeleteIt's great that you're getting to squeeze some writing it. Congrats to Tonja!
ReplyDeleteI like the colors and image on the new cover.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations to Tonja!
And thank you for adding my mom's release announcement. :)
You're welcome! My other blog has the full feature. And once we played with the colors and tried purple, I knew that was it.
DeleteYou have some great pictures from the Hickory Con!
ReplyDeleteLove your new cover.
Great pics!! So glad to see books selling out.
ReplyDeleteI know you had a great time at Hickory Con. Cool about MUSIC BOXES. I like reading and writing books with a little romance, too :)
ReplyDeleteThose are fabulous pics!!!
ReplyDeleteLove the new cover :)
I like my fiction with a romance element as well!
Love your new cover and all the pics. :-)
ReplyDeleteAnna from elements of emaginette
Always fun at the con! No matter what I read or write, I enjoy there being a little romance in it. :)
ReplyDeleteI love the con pictures. Congratulations to Tonja!
ReplyDeleteYour new cover looks great! I hope I can use the book someday.
ReplyDeleteGot to love it when parents and kids both get in on the cosplay.
Looks like Red went down well!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on your reissue. What a great resource to put out for all of us.
Big Red, that is!
ReplyDeleteSo how many Cons do you visit a year? They can be pretty exhausting to attend. I hope they're not wearing you out.
ReplyDeleteI'm trying to add a little romance to my stories. Not much, but enough to add another dimension to my stories.
It can be tiring but it's so rewarding.

ReplyDeleteLove your photos of the Con. I already have a copy of your book. You look like you have so much fun at the Cons. Happy IWSG!
ReplyDeleteI like writing twist ending stories best – and love reading ones which I don't guess, but feel I should have been able to.
ReplyDeleteSure looks like a fun con indeed. Nothing wrong with a little romance in a story.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on working on your own stuff. It must feel good :)
ReplyDeleteIt did! I spend so much time on everyone else's work.
DeleteCongratulations on the Music Boxes success!
ReplyDeleteNice photos from the con.
How exciting. Looks like lots of fun. Congratulation on the sales. And your own work, too. You sure stay busy.
ReplyDeleteGreat photos! Congrats on doing some of your own writing. I need to get your publishing book and also Music Boxes.
ReplyDeleteCheers!
Mary
I saw you got Music Boxes - thank you!
DeleteCongrats on updating your book!
ReplyDeleteAnd for finding some great cons!
Love the con pictures. I'll be picking up your book when it comes out in print. I have the first edition but everything changes so much.
ReplyDeleteSusan, I just checked - the new print version is available now.
DeleteI wonder how many writers don't have a preferred genre. I wouldn't be surprised if it's common to write in many.
ReplyDeleteI love Savannah! My sister lives near there and it's fun to visit. That's great you love romance. Thank you for the YA romance theme of Masquerade--I enjoyed being part of that anthology.
ReplyDeleteJennifer, I'm glad you did.
DeleteCongratulations to Tonja! Wow! That's wonderful news! Good for you for working on something of your own. Romance should be in every book. At least a little ;)
ReplyDeleteThat's great news about Tonja's "Music Boxes." I thoroughly enjoyed her book, and it's wonderful to hear that it is doing so well! And kudos to you for getting some of your own writing done. I'm old-fashioned; I like print books, so I'll look forward to the release of yours in print. Fun photos!
ReplyDeleteFundy, it's available now!
DeleteIt's always a great to see the con pictures. And wow! Music Boxes sold out? How exciting! But then, I have an awesome publisher 😃
ReplyDeleteThank you, Tonja. Did you see the Instagram photo?
DeleteHickory Con looks like it was a ton of fun!! Congrats to Tonja on Music Boxes being sold out. That's so awesome.
ReplyDeleteAlso, good to know I'm in good company in updating a non-fictional book. If you did it, that means when I did it, it really was okay! 😂
Elsie
Elsie, it's okay!
DeleteCongratulations to Tonja and DLP! What awesome news!
ReplyDeleteI lived in Savannah for about 10 months. It is a beautiful place.
Adding my congrats to Tonja. I loved Music Boxes. I find writing non-fiction (like blog posts) much easier than fiction (which I love). Maybe it's the short length. Have a great month.
ReplyDeleteI'm not surprised Big Red is selling so well. Mars is such a fantastic subject to explore with Kim Stanley Robinson 13 years researching his book.
ReplyDeleteI love the cover of your new book! Those con photos look like so much fun! Music Boxes has been in my Amazon wishlist box for awhile now. A summer TBR for me. I have read your non-fiction and it was great! And I have you on the radar for when I finally finish my teen novel. Hopefully you won't be retired by then. (I might have to be from my full-time job). :)
ReplyDeleteLynn, I hope you enjoy it.
DeleteHi L.Diane,
ReplyDeleteWow, your new book looks fab!! I definitely will grab a copy~
Congrats, to Tonja, Elaine, and DLP!!
So, exciting~
Thank you, Ella.
DeleteThe con looks like a lot of fun. Great that you updated the "how to" book!
ReplyDeleteThose pictures are just grand. Especially the little girl with Thor's hammer.
ReplyDeleteFun photos and info, with a cute child in the mix too.
ReplyDeleteBe well, Diane.
