I could give you all sorts of facts and information about libraries. They’re great for those without a means to purchase books. They’re great for research. They’re a great place to discover new authors. And while many are closing, libraries still outnumber bookstores.
So, let me provide something you might not know.
Libraries don’t return books.
And once a book has been checked out X amount of times, it needs to be replaced.

I still go to the library but not nearly as often as when my children were small. Especially, in the summer, we went weekly. They picked out their books for their daily reading hour. Such memories of wonderful summers in the library with my kids :) Lucy from Lucy's Reality

I've always wanted a library in my house... With mostly no windows, only torches, stone floors covered with red rugs lined with bronze colored tassels, hardwood shelves rising into the darkness of the arched stone ceiling...

I'm a library hound and huge cheerleader for an institution that 1) supports authors by buying books 2)supports literacy by keeping reading free and available and 3) often supports the community and is a hub for learning and creativity. To me, libraries are one of the pillars in our society!

The Library system here in palm beach county Florida is fantastic, a greta place to read magazines for free. they also have activities and speakers. One of our most beautiful ones (I just found out from my son's teacher) Is a great place to get married.

ReplyDeleteWith the economy in the toilet, those libraries that are open are packed to the gills with people who cannot afford to buy books. The one in SLC is always crammed with individuals reading. I love to see that. I hate it though when libraries won't accept donated books because they are self-published.

Diane, I used to love going to the library as a child, the stillness and peace. They are now shutting down so many libraries here in the UK, so we now have to travel further, they are no longer local for the children which is such a shame. Never considered that libraries do outnumber bookstores. I do love getting my audio books from there! And they offer so many services, including writer's groups, and I go to Toast Masters at a library. :)

I'm a HUGE fan of libraries!! I am constantly at the library doing research. Often I find the depth of information in the books housed in a library much more useful than the shallow information on the Internet. I remember the first time I found out a library was carrying a book of mine -- that was truly magical.

ReplyDeleteYes, and the libraries in your neighborhood? Well, you can easily become known to them and work with them. Some of them even might end up recognizing you with an award which happened to me recently.

I love libraries for so many reasons. That's one of the reasons I appreciate my publisher -- they market mostly to libraries.

ReplyDeleteLibraries, a wonderful source of knowledge and a place I can get totally absorbed in. We are fighting, with a passion, to keep our libraries open in England. Government cutbacks have meant some are now under threat of closing. That would be a tragedy.

ReplyDeleteI miss the library days. As a child, I remember a trip to the library as such a treat. Our kids have so much information available to them, in an instant, that they cannot appreciate libraries the way we did.

I love libraries! Being in a library reminds me that no matter how many books I've read, I'll never run out of books to read.
