Some Book Figures and Assistance Needed With Announcement

Some interesting figures from Publishers Weekly, which included the unit sale of print books. The decline of print books slowed last year, although it still dropped 9.3% overall. Mass markets took the biggest hit, dropping over 20%.

What I thought was interesting was how the sales spread over the three main formats:

Mass market paperbacks - 66,403,000 units
Hardcover - 157,228,000
Trade paperback - 325,789,000

That averages out to approximate three out of every five books sold was a 6x9 trade paperback. For authors and publishers still producing print books, that seems like the smart size to pick right now.

Several people asked how they can help with my upcoming book release. My tour dates are set, but I could certainly use help with announcements. So I’ve decided to make a contest out of it!

Sign up below to announce my book’s release any time between February 5th and 8th and three people will win an e-book copy. I will send out the information, links, and image the week prior.

Once I release my third book the trilogy will be complete and I will begin selling 6 X 9 trade paperbacks again. They do surprisingly well at the beach and at boardwalks.

  13. Interesting numbers. I think that readers are choosing between books that they are sure that they want to keep (trade paperback or hardback) and books that they know they want to read at least once (mass market or ebook) and ebooks are changing the mass market sales. I could be wrong, but that's just one thought.
I signed up to help out!

  14. Tamara and Nick, thank you.

Tyrean, that is exactly what is happening. People are buying the ebook instead of the mass market size, which is often the same price if not more.

Excited about how much the new edition of the Frugal Book Promoter (expanded! updated!) can help writers with the tried and true and the new media, too. Now a USA Book News award-winner in its own right (www.budurl.com/FrugalBkPromo) it the original edition was also a Reader Views winner and an Irwin Award winner.

I've added my blog to your list. I'm always up for lending my blog to support others.
