Communication
Communicating and spending time with another person helps us to get to know that individual. Relationships move through several stages in the progression as well, from the discussion of facts to the exchange of opinions to the sharing of feelings. Every step requires conversation at some level and a give and take from both individuals.
Long distance relationships are common in our society today, but at some point, physical contact is required for continued growth. Body language and mannerisms play a huge role in human interaction. Some things are only communicated through eye contact or a friendly handshake. The sharing of activities and accumulation of similar experiences adds to a friendship, providing yet another level of understanding. We crave physical nearness for these very reasons.
Communication is so important to maintain healthy relationships. Sometimes I think all of this new technology is hindering us. The ability to be more connected has made us more disconnected than ever. Ironic! So much gets lost and misunderstood through texting, Facebooking, etc.

Great post and I agree on communication. I don't think my old manager even realized how strong her body language communicated for her more than her words. Even if the words were positive, her body language spoke the opposite of what she said.
ReplyDeleteSo what happens when so much communication today is though text? Seems we lose a lot and can have misunderstandings a lot more.

ReplyDeleteCommunication in person is best, but I still remember the days me and the hubs started dating while living in separate states. It was an adventure.

ReplyDeleteI run a small business, sole pro, and let me tell you, communication sets me apart from the big guys.
ReplyDeleteMy customers call me, and they get me on the phone, day or night, weekends, holidays, and any other time you might normally hate to answer the phone.
I'm extrapolating your personal interaction to a business interaction, but the truth remains -- getting personal with your customers (readers, fans, associates...) makes for good business!
