It's All Fun & Games Blogfest

Today I’m participating in Alex J Cavanaugh’s It’s All Fun & Games Blogfest.

My husband and I love to play games. We probably own more games than most families with children. I’m supposed to pick three, so here they are in reverse order:

#3 - Scrabble

I’ve always enjoyed this game, and its sister, Upwords. As an author, I’ve always joked that I don’t know any big words, and it shows when I play! I am the master of making up words that end up being real, though. I recently downloaded Scrabble to my new IPhone and I’m addicted. At least I can beat ‘Norm’ every time!

#2 - Trivia Games

Bring it on! Any kind of trivia game. I’m not very good at history, geography, or sports, but I do well in other categories. We have an OLD game called Rock Trivia, and if it’s about a 60’s band, my standard answer is Herman’s Hermits. (I’ve been right several times!) My skill lies in dates. I can usually remember when anything happened. Guess my brain excels at storing useless numbers.

#1 - Roller Coaster Tycoon

This should come as no surprise to anyone who knows me - I am a roller coaster junkie. When the first version came out, I was glued to my computer for months. Design my own coasters? Pure Heaven! I played the second and third versions for hours, too. It’s not currently loaded on my computer, but I can still hear the music. When they changed the platform for the fourth version, I wasn’t crazy about it. But the first three will forever hold a special place in my heart! I even own the RCT board game.

And your favorite games?

  1. Can't go wrong with trivia games - especially movie trivia games!
Thanks for participating in the blogfest.

  2. I love Rollercoaster Tycoon. My son and I used to play that a lot. We'd make really high coasters and see if we could make the cars going flying off it and crash on the ground. It's a bit morbid I know... but funny.

  3. Clarissa, watching the cars fly off into the lake was always fun. Of course, that really hurt park attendance.

  4. Scrabble, Pick Two, Rumoli, but right now my favourite game is one I'm creating with my grandkids - Spiral Mountain Quest - a hybrid of Risk, Dungeons & Dragons, Sorry, Clue and our own madcap challenges - mental, physical and spiritual. yeehaw!

Scrabble is a fun game. Do you know what a kwyjibo is?

  6. Roller Coaster Tycoon! My kids were addicted to that one summer and I would always get to "ride" the coasters when they'd finished. Excellent choice. :)

  7. Good choices. I've never heard of the Roller Coaster game before this.

  8. Scrabble is the best! What a great word game. It probably influenced my vocabulary more than anything.

  10. Scrabble is THE family favorite and I really got into the first two versions of Roller Coaster.

  11. I love Scrabble and Trivia games, too! Trivial Pursuit is one my favorites.

I never played Rollercoaster Tycoon, but I loved Zoo Tycoon (I also had the Dinosaur Tycoon expansion pack). It was too fun building my own zoo! Naturally the zebras had the best habitat, LoL.

  14. I didn't know RollerCoaster Tycoon was a game--guess I didn't really know what it was. But that one sounds like it would be fun, especially at my age--all the excitement of roller coasters without having to actually ride them.

  22. Ahhhhhhh!!!! I know a song by Herman's Hermits and I can't think of it!!!!! I don't know about Rock Trivia, but I'd be pretty decent at it :)

  23. Stephen, no I don't.

Laura, I had Zoo Tycoon. And I imagine the zebras were treated like royalty.

Lee, you should try the board game - even safer.

    M Pax, it's great!

Hart, we coaster fanatics know everything...

  29. I love Scrabble and Upwords, too. My sister has a knack for making up words that turn out to be real words, too. It's so frustrating!

It's been a long time since I've played Scrabble. My son and I like to play Monopoly. We have three different versions of the game. We get pretty competitive when we play Monopoly.

  32. My favorite trivia game was the Weakest Link. I haven't played that one in a while, but I always got a kick when Computer Anne Robinson would berate my performance.

I'm more of a cards game player myself, my favorite "board game" is chess, which most "board gamers" consider "Boaring" (mispelled pun intended, lol)

Rollercoaster junkie, hmm? Figures, knowin' The Spunkster, teehee!

  34. I totally stink at Scrabble. And I'm a writer. It's sad. But on a lighter note, my kids love Roller Coaster Tycoon.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Elizabeth, it' a fun game. One of the only computer games I'll play.

Ella, you need to get it. So much fun.

Marvin, they don't make them big enough for me!

  36. Oh yes, RollerCoaster Tycoon, and related theme park tycoon games. Great fun. :-)

I remember I used to have older versions I couldn't play any more because on newer computers they simply played too fast. Funny to watch, though. ;-)

  37. Scrabble seems to be making a lot of writer lists!

I've never heard of Roller Coaster Tycoon, but it sounds like fun! :D

  38. We don't have Scrabble in my country, but it always seemed so interesting and fun to me.

    Another roller coaster junkie? YESSSSS!!!!!!!

Ever been to Cedar Point in Sandusky, Ohio?

Although, the Tycoon version is a little more my speed now. LOL.

    Great choices!

  40. Dezmond, nothing like Scrabble?

Bryce, total junkie! Yes, I've been to Cedar Point. Prefer Busch Gardens Williamsburg and Islands of Adventure, because I like the themes.
