Tales From the Bookshelf - The Home Library!

Okay, now who doesn't dream of a large room devoted entirely to books, decorated with elegance and yet inviting and warm?

I discovered some cool books that show you how to do it!

Now, I've not read, reviewed, purchased, or receieved these books as a gift! They just looked interesting!

And my dream library includes a large window seat with many fluffy pillows!

What about YOUR dream library???

  1. I'll take the one in the fourth photo, thanks!

  2. The library I don't want is the one on the cover of "Living with Books" - books for me are living breathing entities, not minimalistic decorations.
My dream library would have MANY shelves of assorted heights, some way to reach the highest shelves (currently, my books are in a wardrobe, and I climb on a dining chair to reach the books in the back row of the highest shelf), at least one well lit window, and lots of floor cushions (I like lying down on my tummy while reading).

    Thanks for getting me drooling.

  3. I miss library... one day I'll have one again, all the books are carefully stored for now.

Have to say I love the third one but that could just be because of the two dragons holding the globe in that one.

  4. Oh, I'd love any of those libraries. Can you image the fun filling those libraries with your favorite books? Wow.

  5. Mason, I'd just love to get my bookshelves all in one room! We have eight spread all over the house.

CC it doesn't surprise me you'd notice the dragons right away!

  6. Oooh, you have just given me the next list of books to buy. I love photo 1. It's totally my style. Now if only my house were really in that style...

  7. What beautiful libraries! I have shelves and shelves of books, but my bedroom is my library right now. What a cool concept. I'd love to create a little nook library in my home.

  8. Wow - those are some fantastic home libraries. Soon to be a thing of the past, probably, with the onlaught of ebooks.

Hey how about a book titled, "How to Make the Best Use of How To Books."?

  10. I love them all, but the fourth one has lots of book and with the second floor you have easy access to them without the need for a ladder. And I like the cover for the Library Design book. I'd love to have a library room in my house. Right now I have a library closet.

  11. Oooh, those books look fantastic, as do the monster libraries you posted. I think every library needs big windows and tall lamps and cushy chairs. And outlets for the laptop...

  12. Wow! If there's such a thing as being turned on by the library, I'm it. I'm drooling over those pictures and just want to jump inside them and savour all those lovely books.

  13. I'd seen pictures of a home where the staircases themselves were converted into bookshelves. It was really cool.

My dream library has a fireplace and a wine carafe filled with sherry.

  14. Marvin, that's a snazzy idea!

Christina, that sounds good to me!

  17. I love the bookshelves!

If I were rich, I'd have a library at home.

  18. We could do it, I just don't know where we'd put the exercise equipment then...

  19. Wow! I would love to have a home library that looked like any of these - I love the top one with the sliding ladder and arched doorway! Someday....

  20. I have devoted many posts to pictures of dreamy home libraries, even decorating with books, because I am THAT enamored with tactile books. (e-readers will never be in my life).

I LOVE that first one, with the arched doorway, and parquet floors, but I wouldn't kick any of them out of bed.

Books, and shelves of them are, are sublime.

    Great post.

  23. I actually had a wall of books in my last home...paper and audio. The problem comes when you move, as I did. What to keep, what to toss...and much as you'd like, you just can't take them all...or I couldn't--space in the truck and in the new house.

    Best, Galen.
