Media Pitches

For the A to Z Challenge, I’m posting promo and other tips for writers. Today it’s creating media buzz.

We’ve all heard about pitching the media and how to gain their attention. But did you know you can create your own media buzz?

You do this through:

Blogging
Articles
Media releases
Videos
Newsletters
Interviews

And anything else that gets people talking about you!

What are you doing to create buzz?

I'm returning from a speaking gig in the NC mountains this morning - will catch up with everyone this afternoon!

I'm just blogging and commenting and perhaps give out the odd award here and there, Not quite a buzz.

That is how I found you too...your own buzz to have your book reviewed from your publicist.

Glad she found me so I could find you!

At this point in time, I'm trying not to create buzz. In fact, I've been advised not to pitch/excerpt any of my stories until they sell. However, that doesn't mean I'm not saving every one of these tips for when I DO have something to promote. :)

I really need to focus on being more proactive in this area. My media efforts are definitely reactive, which I'm sure is hurting my potential exposure.

These are all great ways to create buzz!

Today I found out Tahereh Mafi has shirts, bags, mugs that have a clever phrase, graphic, and of course her name and blog url. And proceeds go to her favorite charity. If that's not a clever way to create buzz, I don't know what is!

VR, but you are trying to establish yourself. Look at what Elana Johnson did long before her agent landed a deal for her book.

Tony, you're not the only one!

Laura, I like that.

Thanks everyone - sorry, on the road the past two days and I am exhausted.
